typically movies based on books ruin the book because dumb directors don't know how to read the books

Yeah, it's worrying me and that's why I'd like to know what people who have seen it have thought. And it's not a simple book either, so it'd either be incredibly beautiful or a let down.

The film is a nice attempt, and it doesn't seem like the director or cast didn't try, it's just Norwegian Wood (the book) has a lot which needs to be captured and can't within such a short time frame imo. Parts feel rushed and a lot of the depth and symbolism felt like it was missing to me.

It seems to be pretty polarizing. Some say it's great and others say it fell really flat. I'd say it's worth a watch, but really isn't much in comparison to the book.

And lol!

Thanks!

I'd never expect it to be as great as the book so that's OK

The movie sucks.

The cinematography and sets were great, acting was decent but it felt rushed and impersonal.

I think I might watch it out of curiosity, and I'm a sucker for good good sets and cinematography. The book has a kind of impersonal yet sentimental and lonely feeling to it, but it's full of nuances and if the movie is rushed it could take away a lot from it.

It did.

Watch it for the cinematography, not for the direction I'd say.

As much as I love Rinko Kikuchi, I think Aoi Yu should have played Naoko.
