However, music instructors always emphasize that there needs to be a synergy in all those aspects for a song to flow well, and sound well produced. Twin<3333LovesMango 682 Posted October 28, 2013 Share Posted October 28, 2013 I don't believe in using the excuse of music being subjective but at the same time I feel like different types of music can have various styles that could all lead to a song being good. Strong composition, melody, (if rapping) cadence and flow etc etc. I think music that makes you go "OH SHIT WOW" (in the good way) is something that can make a song good. Good music is produced using all proper procedures for music-making, no cheap ways out. The quality is enhanced by execution of style and message. Sincerity makes it even better. Edit: This is characteristic of "good" music, not necessarily masterpieces of a decade. There's so much music out there that doesn't carry it's basic parts, or forfeits quality for style. If the lyrics mean something to me, then I will enjoy the song no matter what. There are definitely times when a song is great because of it's melody, but if said song had strong lyrics, then it's really difficult for it to sound bad (in my ears). Iljin Prince 904 Posted October 28, 2013 Share Posted October 28, 2013 There's a lot of checkpoints for me, so much so that only certain songs have ticked them all, absolutely no musicians have been able to consistently meet them, so to me, all music, sans a couple of songs is technically bad.
