Photographer Harassed Online After Calling Out Pop Star for Stealing His Photo

After British singer Harry Styles, a member of boyband One Direction, stole an image by photographer Ezequiel Scagnetti and posted it to his Instagram page, the photographer was understandably less than thrilled.

He shared a screenshot of the post on Facebook, pointing out that while 750,000 people had ‘liked’ the post, he most certainly did not. Not only had the singer failed to gain permission to use the image he had also neglected to acknowledge who had taken the shot.

It appears that following, after the photographer called him out, Styles or a member of his social media team removed the image, though they did not make contact.

Incredibly, Scagnetti then began to receive aggressive, xenophobic, homophobic and racist insults on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and his personal website's comment section from the singer’s legions of fans. His professional Facebook page was also attacked, with many leaving 1-star ratings for his work.

"Guys, as far as I understand most of you are teenagers, this is the only reason I take the time to write to you, despite all your extremely aggressive, xenophobic, homophobic and racist insults.

Just because you are kids and you have the life in front of you, I write this unique note: it can be helpful at least for a few of you.

We live in a world where 70% of the wealth of the planet is concentrated in just less than 0,5% of the earth population. Statistics prove that most of you are likely to be part of the 99,5% that are out of that wealth.

So, you should be happy and spread your happiness and love just because the fact that you have, outside the necessary calories to live, a telephone and internet connection, when hundreds of thousands of boys and girls are starving at this right moment.

But not, you are spreading hate, unlimited hate, in the honour of #harrystyles.

Did you know that #harrystyles and myself, we live off copyright?

Every streamed song, every CD you buy, every concert ticket you pay for, you are paying artists’ copyrights. If you are not paying for it, some sponsor or company is doing it for you. Nothing is free. Not #harrystyles’ works, nor my work.

Every magazine you buy, every poster you see, every advertising photography you see, on the internet or in the ‘real world’, a photographer is getting paid on copyright, even if you are not taking the money from your pockets, somebody is doing it.

I am a rich man, but of another kind of richness, by doing professional pictures, i earn enough to feed my wife and my 2 kids, and that’s all i need.

You see guys, we have different values; success for you is to be famous to have ‘likes’ on Facebook or to be a pop singer, success for me is raising my family with dignity.

You should consider this: the more harm you make to my professional image, the more harm you make to your beloved Harry.

Good luck kids.

Ezequiel Scagnetti Photographer"

The thing is, you can't find this picture anywhere on the internet without it being said who took it or who's to take the credit. I tried searching the photo, unless you search for something specific, it's hard to get to this picture, everywhere else there's the name of the photographer. So, no, it's not a random picture from the internet, and if someone claims their copyrite, it's their right by law. Looking at Harry's profile pic on the instagram, you might think he's the photographer, thus it's very important to give credit to the photos.

The main point of this story is not what Harry did, it's what came after. Hordes of brainless so called fans, who try to minimize Harry's fault or momentary misjudgment is a very frightening thing, and you don't need to go too far to see that it's a worldwide thing, more like human tragedy. Kpop has it on a daily basis.
