WINNER to debut simultaneously in Japan & Korea

Japanese media, including Sankei Sports, announced on Oct 27 that YG Entertainment’s new boy group WINNER will be making a debut simultaneously in both Korea and Japan.

Sankei Sports wrote about YG’s first new boy group WINNER’s upcoming debut in 7 years since BIGBANG, which was the winning Team A (Kang Seung Yoon, Song Min Ho, Kim Jin Woo, Lee Seung Hoon and Nam Tae Hyun) on YG’s real survival program ‘WHO IS NEXT: WIN’ aired in the evening of Oct 25.

The newspaper stated that YG Entertainment’s founder Yang Hyun Suk announced WINNER will be performing in the opening stages of BIGBANG’s 6 largest Dome Tour (total of 16 concerts in 6 cities) that kicks off on Nov 16. The newspaper then added that Yang commented, “We are hoping the debut of WINNER will be made both in Korea and Japan simultaneously. In the soundtrack, we will include songs for Japanese audience.â€

Daily Sports also quoted Yang, “Japanese market is appealing. We have in mind a simultaneous debut in Korea and Japan. The first album will include songs recorded in Japanese.â€

Sports Hochi was another newspaper that quoted Yang full of confidence, “WINNER will be able to bear fruit in Japan earlier than BIGBANG did.â€

The 5 members of WINNER, who have been learning Japanese for the last 3 years, will appear before the Japanese fans for the first time on Nov 16 at Seibu Dome concert.

....wouldn't it be easier to just debut both A and B and have them do activities in both countries a la EXO?

Maybe YG doesn't want to make it look like he's following SM. :/  At the very least it will avoid starting comparisons too early. Unless that's what he wants. :._.:  I don't understand business strategy very much.

I hope their Japanese is good. Look forward to hearing it.

Comparison = rivalry =  make fans more supportive to the groups

People already started Winner vs EXO before they even debuted anyway.

It seem much easier to establish the group if they concentrate their attention in one area rather than split between both countries....  :._.:

i just thought kpop groups were done with Japan overall.....good luck to them i guess  ^^

Boy groups still have strong fanbase that carry them in Japan. And with YG exposing WINNER to the Japanese fangirls as BIGBANG's opening act, it will be easier for them to gather a fanbase there.

edit: I didn't mean that they're going to steal BIGBANG's fanbase, J-Fans are very loyal. I meant that he's getting WINNER's name out there.

I think Team A/ Winner has a chance, with that voice Seungyoon has. Also, I think Japanese like songs that have more of a rocking pop vibe to it like Smile Again...meh I don't know I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE MORE OF WINNER. OMG T_T I'm so inlove with them now like I need to see them everyday on my screen.

True. Competitive frenzy = $$$$$

To be fair though there used to be an insane amount of BAP vs EXO, and I rarely see that anymore. Maybe it will tone down if they start heading in different directions musically? Although, there is the whole YG vs SM aspect. ._.

Yeah, I guess. YG seems to prefer concentrating his efforts on fewer groups with fewer members, while SM has always been slightly better at multi-tasking (large groups and subunits seem to be their specialty).

TBH I think not just in Japan but Worldwide too. Boy bands is much easier to sell outside Korea then girl groups IMO. The easiest example i can see is Super Junior. Super Show is already on their 5th Edition this year compared to SNSD's world tour so far only 3 editions plus 2 only Japan tours. Look at the number of boy groups touring outside korea for concerts, Big Bang, Super Junior, Infinite, Beast, MBLAQ compared to the number of girl groups doing tours outside so far i can only see Kara SNSD and 2NE1 going round but so far only 2ne1 that has gone really around the world.
