Well, for the color tone, I think you can put a brown gradiant map over the picture (and then use : overlay).

Also, I would add a motion blur filter to create that effect (you might have to sharpen after so the image is not too blurry)

or easier thing would be to work with two images. Blur the first one and then use the eraser so you just keep some places blurry, then sharpen

See :

Hope that helped because I'm not good at explaining how it works OTL

thank you so much!! :ahmagah: don't worry it's well explained !  i noticed that they have also some kind of pixels effect going on like the pic isn't smooth, do you think they used a sharpening tool or something, sorry i'm not familiar with the ps terms yet

thank you for your reply

so this is the gif i'm working with

ktMcRoi.gif

i tired to use actions to remove the background, and it worked, but when i played the gif it came out like this :rlytearpls:

2daWu9C.gif

but i want something at least similar to this

CIWEA1M.gif

i don't know where i messed up :rlytearpls:

i think the frame plays and it doesn't turn off when the next frame is enabled ! i don't know how to fix it

I don't know if you still need this or not, but if you're planning to make the background transparent so that you can put the gif on top of another picture, then insert the image you wish to use below all the gif layers, then select all of the gif layers and change the blending mode to either Screen or Lighten.

Hi, I'm new to photoshop and was wondering how people edit pictures to look so pretty and smooth and make the colours so stand-out-ish

I don't really know how to explain it so here are some examples:

tumblr_m4un72JsA01qisyqwo1_500.png

tumblr_nrqiafsgnz1sewbc1o1_500.jpg

tumblr_m6srmvnhW11rrbmg3o1_r1_500.jpg

The pics you provided used essentially one adjustment: Layer > Adjustment > Levels. Or if you're more comfortable using Curves, you can also use that one until you get your desired result. Vibrance also helps to get the color pop out more.

For the first and second pics however, I don't think Vibrance is the case. Those are something you can achieve with Levels and/or Curves alone. For the third picture, Vibrance might have been used.

It's no problem! Have fun playing with them :D If you have any other concern regarding coloring or Photoshop in general, you can always ask~

I have a few questions about making gifs~

How do you add a frame to a gif with just text? I've tried adding a new frame but it just duplicates the previous frame and I can't erase the stuff on it

Also when you delete frames do you normally delete the layers that go with it or is that not necessary? I realised when you delete frames, the layers don't delete. I only just started making gifs so I haven't tried adding things on gifs yet but wouldn't that make editing or putting text on the gif a nightmare because you have to find which frames belong to which layers if you've deleted a lot of frames

not exactly sure what you mean by this, like a gif with subs?

i don't delete the layers, its never gotten in the way of anything ive done so i dont think its necessary but idk for sure lol

usually when i want to add something extra onto a gif (text, a psd, sharpening) I convert to timeline then change it to a smart object, much easier to deal with from there imo

oh thats good! i was thinking you had to because when i tried to edit a frame before it wouldn't let me and said i needed to make the layer visible so i was thinking it would take forever to figure out which layer it was to make it visible

what does the smart object do and how do you change it?

Does anyone know what I did wrong here?

I just tried this tutorial

http://yeahps.tumblr.com/post/23255029114/photoshop-tutorial-gif-on-pic-edit

and it turned out like this:

sR07Q3K.gif

You were doing it right. What exactly the result did you want to achieve?

What's the link? Gradient files should be .grd and not .png, since PNG is an image format. Or alternatively, you can just use the png but you gotta play around with blending mode depending on what kind of result you'd like to get.

Yep. I assume by black ink you meant the pitch black color coming down the pic in the tutorial? I think it depends on your choice of image. On the example the background is painted all black so that explains the ink. Unless I misunderstood what you meant orz
