Korean standards of ugliness

so....I just finished watching the latest episode of Infinity Challenge, and it's the second "Ugly Friends Festival".  the first 18 minutes is just them choosing who to invite, and it's really kinda interesting what they think is ugly.  I don't always agree, but since everyone always talks about Korean beauty standards, I thought some of you might like to see what they view as ugly.

Bobby was the only idol they invited (well, pre-surgery Kwanghee was also chosen, but since he's a host he had no choice but to be there).  Some of people that they invited/came I've never heard of before (like the guy in the green hanbok in the middle - he's an olympic winning marathoner and strong canidate for ugliest). Please note that just because you don't think someone is good looking doesn't mean that you think they are talentless.  The guy that always plays villains is really good at it, but he's not attractive.

 

and for the record - this is not about making fun of people for being ugly.  it's about "even though we aren't the best looking, we still have charms.  let us show you them."

I noticed a lot of korean women don't like square jaws and get ps to shave their face into that v shape meanwhile in the west that's a feature that like 99% of all models have.

I personally don't have issues with anyone that showed up.  I think some of the uglier kcelebs I have seen weren't even invited.  but this isn't about my preferences, it's about Korean's preferences.

They all have their charms. Just to be happy and confident in what you look like is already something. Them accepting that just means yeah they can call me "ugly" but they can't bring me down with it.

Not only women, but men also shave their jaws trying to achieve the V-line look.

That confused me so much when I first got into KPOP. People in the west are complimented on their square jaws and no one gives a f about round/soft looking jaws.

ya'll are getting lost in the Bobby mention.  it doesn't matter who you think is good looking or not, this about Korean standards.  people are always saying that they don't get their beauty standards, so here's a look at the other end of the spectrum.

 

Like, Sukjin is considered uglier than Jaesuk just because he has a big nose.  

 

  

 

Now, YJS is my ultimate favorite Korean, but lord is he uglier than Sukjin to me.  the nose size is way more important to Koreans than it is to me.  I learned something from this.

he was in the round of 64, but he didn't make it to the round of 32.  those that made it to the top 16 were invited.  not all of them showed up, so they had to fill in with a few classic standbys like Defconn.
