I finally found the Courage to post here I was introduced to hyo while watching immortal song and I instantly fall for her and everything about her

Welcome to the thread! Did anyone ask which Immortal Song performance was your favorite?

 

Hyolyn's genre is R&B and sadly R&B isn't appreciated enough in Korea. I want her solo album to consist of songs she composed, and the title track to be much better than OWL was. No more DQ choreographer, no more Brave sound and no more Duble Sidekick. I would love it if she worked with an international producer and made a song that showcases her vocals well but is also public friendly. 

 

Yeah she only performed the rock version once :/ and I'm still sad we never got a live performance of Falling.

That's one of things that I never understood from last year's promo, it's totally possible to make a risky, genre specific song public friendly. It all depends on how it's promoted to the public. I mean Sistar19's ma boy was completely different from anything Sistar did and what was trending at the time and it still killed(largely because of the catchy choreo, imo). Starship's reasons for staying with their current producers/staying with Sistar's current sound are so weird to me. When Sistar revealed that Starship rejected Hyo's songs because only she could sing them I was like, "but...Starship...you... already... make... your... songs... specifically for... only Hyolyn... to sing..."

I don't know what starship is doing with sistar. This is a mess. I only hope that Hyorin composes her album even if it's a flop. I want her to be like IU and get that recognition. If starship didn't invest any money on her debut, why they don't allow her to compose her songs? I don't see the problem. This company sucks.

Same, IU's career is my goals for Hyo. Hyolyn does get recognition as a "real artist" when she covers others' songs and when she works with other singers but imo she always has to "re-earn" that recognition because she goes from singing Hello/Goodbye to singing TMB and the public doesn't respect a lot of "idol music."  IU is so lucky (not just lucky she worked for it) that in general the public, her fans, and her company support the fact that she's hands on with her music and look forward to new sounds and different concepts from her.

 

i'm actually little disappointed cause it seems like a remake of hello but i know i'll enjoy it regardless

Did anyone watch Sistar at the Dream Concert? It was a pretty boring performance, I really disliked the TMB remix and I thought that it was a waste to remix. I read that one of the appeals of the Dream Concert was the ability to perform in front of other fandoms and potentially grow one's own. They could've made a big splash with the regular version of TMB performed with other idols (you've got two of the groups that absolutely loved that song last year--BTS and EXO--also attending) but instead we got a house remix that doesn't really fit together. I mean, I love House Rulez but that was meh.

I was about to guess and say that maybe they don't want Hyolyn to be known as a rapper but then it hit me that they OK'ed the rap part in OWL. IDG, as we all know Starship (like any company) loves media playing why then won't they work this out--the most natural trending topic they've had since Some? (not saying this is comparable to Some-juggernaut but you know how people just fell in love with and kept listening to SoGiGo)  Maybe they're waiting for it to actually hit 1M?

 

it's sad how they're not investing much in their breadwinners. They have the option of getting Sistar better choreographers, better producers who don't make the same sound for every girl group out there and they should let the members(specifically Hyo since she composes songs) include more than 1 song in their albums. Their album packaging is trash and they have like 1 fanmeeting/release in which only 100 fans are allowed to attend. It's sad and they better not waste Hyo's talent in the process. She was supposed to have a summer comeback but Sistar is waiting until half the year is over before coming back. I know that they've been everywhere individually but it's time for Starship to step up or let the group who helped them get to where they are today shine.

For a while I didn't think of blaming Starship because they'd always proven to be "about the music" instead of gimmicks. They only had two idol groups and they were a small company, I thought that they just couldn't pull that kind of stuff off. But now it's not that I'm upset that they're giving all this promo to Monsta X, it's that I know that Starship DID know how to promote a group to gain a fandom and that they just didn't feel like doing so for Sistar. I said a while ago that Boyfriend got all the fandom building stuff and Sistar got all the public building stuff and if they could just switch management for a year they'd be killing it. It seems that SS took my advice and assembled the perfect squad for MX. I just wish they'd do the same for BF and Sistar. It's not like those two groups have even begun to reach their highest potential. Sistar especially has SO many casual fans that they could be reaching out to, I believe that if Sistar had a special deal just with a "rare" photocard they could increase physical sales. I'm hoping that they hold a 5 year anniversary party on their AfreecaTV. And still waiting hoping that Sistar or Starship's twitter will tweet a link to Sistar's Idolic TV segment.

I think so too, Hyolyn said on Hello Counselor that her and Soyou spend a lot of time together. I also think I remember Soyou saying that Hyolyn likes to buy couple tees for the two of them. IMO it's because they've got so much in common and they're p. much same-aged chingus (Soyou is a '92 but the age difference is negligible between them (and Soyou is friends with lots of '91ers)) whilst being so different.

 

One day we got to put together a Sorin video because Sorin is kinda perfect, lol.

I've seen that Hyolyn doesn't really interact much with other idols that much unless shes close so I don't hope for much w any 

 

This is so true, last year Hyolyn did a photoshoot for BNT international and she said that one of her closest friends is Secret's Sunhwa. She p. much gushed about how pretty and lovely Sunhwa is. However, I've only ever seen the two of them interact once (when Hyolyn won with OWL on MuBank). So yeah Hyolyn really keeps a lid on her private life. From what I've seen, the only person that Hyolyn is consistently touchy feely with is Dasom (like I said, I have no idea what goes on when the cameras aren't rolling, so).

The thing that I love about Hyolyn is that she has her favorite/preferred genres of music but she's seriously up for any type of musical experience. I think it was PYT who said that at some point Hyolyn was even considering trying a reggae sound. She would sound so good on a Primary collaboration.

I think I'm done with the Sistar thread. The worst part is that there are people in there who are trying to explain why that comment is so offensive--not just to Hyolyn but to the millions of people and Sistar/Hyolyn FANS who do not have fair skin--and they're brushing it off as attacking and being mean. Plus the apology is one of those "sorry you were offended, can we get over it now?" Plus onlookers who are just miffed that there are so many replies but none about a comeback.

 

It's just so disappointing and upsetting. One's love for Hyolyn doesn't have to be unconditional but it shouldn't be based on the color of her skin.

I hope that Starship would promote Sistar in other Asian countries--especially because I've seen the fancams and they've got a lot of fans--but I also think that there is more that Starship could do for Sistar in Korea. They've done a lot with their brand of public relevancy and fanbase but I do think that they could go higher. To the point where they could hold concerts in Korea if they wanted to.

 

I think that the extent of Sistar's Asia promotions is gonna be Skechers Meet and Greets, which is clever and kinda cheap because Starship doesn't have to do much to put it together. Although I really hope that they put in a little more effort than that. My fear is that Sistar is Starship's foot into other markets but that they won't dive in with them. Like, Sistar's presence will help whatever negotiations SS has but Sistar won't really do promotions in other countries--just kinda pop in for a concert with other acts.

 

Oh and I hope that Hyolyn does more varieties for this comeback, someone said that Starship was adding schedules to their calendar after the members had already done them so maybe that's why Hyolyn schedules look particularly empty. I really hope it's not like last time, last time it made no sense that Dasom and Hyolyn did not that many appearances.

 

edit: praying that Hyolyn's solo comeback isn't some kind of after thought that she has to squeeze in between a group comeback and a collaboration. I, honestly, would be fine if she didn't comeback this year at all. I want her to be able to put her full attention on her solo and whatever appearances she makes to promote instead of splitting her attention a million different ways like last time. I mean, I know she could do it, but I hate that she has to choose/sacrifice her solo for other things.

HYOLYN teasers from Sistar's "SHAKE IT" era

I'm not even mad that they dropped DC villains, it's understandable, but why do all the teasers look like they were done by an amateur? I don't even mind that everything so far has only slightly been an #evilcharmer concept, but why are Sistar's teasers so plain? So far everything's been misleading, clumsy, boring or disappointing. I thought there'd be a silver lining with the 4 different album covers but I don't know if I want to pay $80 for albums with a photobook/cover that look anything like the teasers we've seen so far. I know a lot of us wanted this comeback to be the one where Sistar comes roaring back to the forefront, to make everyone recognize them as a contender for the best girl group but so far only the names of the songs (and the fact that Sistar is singing them) has inspired hope for a turnaround in Sistar's career.

 

I can now only wish that Starship used the money they saved from the teasers and put it to the actual music video and that the songs on this album are amazing.

Hyorin looks so cute  but I would like this cover so much more if it didn't look so cheaply made. If Starship didn't want to hire better graphic designers, why didn't they just hold a contest and have all the talented Star1's submit ides/art for the covers?   

exactly, le sigh. at this point I'm not even upset at the lackluster concept, I'm just wondering why everything that we've gotten so far has been so cheap looking. You guys' signatures look waaaaaay better than all of the teasers we've gotten so far. I mean, it would've been amazing if your sig was an actual teaser--it fits right in with Starship's ever changing concept-concept (lol). 

 

having star1s submit artwork for the cover would've been a great idea, not only would it mean that the covers were made with love, time and care, but it would've been a great (non-trollship) way to build up momentum for this comeback.

I just wanted to say, if you're disappointed in what we've seen so far with Sistar's comeback/concept, (I don't know if anyone is or not in this thread) one of main/most important parts of Sistar's current music, image, concepts and brand is Hyolyn's vocals. With this comeback we're pretty much guaranteed to get lots of Hyolyn singing! Just a silver lining I thought I'd point out~

so I was watching Sistar on this Afreeca livestream and at 21:59 she talks about her solo stuff?

 

 

 

I can't make out everything but I think she also says that she'd like to do radio VJ work in the future (she says the other members have done special VJing but not her).I saw some hyotties having a discussion about this on twitter a while back. I think she'd be really good at MCing stuff, she was great on 1000 song challenge. I hope to see her expand her work horizons in the future!
