What caused the downfall of MoMusu/Hello Project?

I guess one of the factors for their decline was the rise of AKB48 and their promotion strategies that are definitely better than H!P?

I got into Momusu because of Koharu Kusumi and I kinda stopped keeping up with their group releases when she left lol but my bestfriend is still really into them so I get my Momusu news from her.

Main reason is popular group is leaving and no new hits other theories I read on the internet is showbiz politics; according to what I read (it is only a comment so don't take it seriously) 48 groups which rise into fame was being backup by strong/powerful companies thus they will eliminate or not allow any strong rival group to raise at their level and MM once managed to achieve the current AKB status so they are in the blacklist.

Also J&A was said to be in cohoot with 48 group despite each other fans hate the other company. J&A mainly Julie's faction hate UFA for creating rumor about their freshly debuted HSJ before with UFA's new girl group at that time BZ and C-UTE, it is said that UFA created dating rumors between these groups that is why it is suspicious that during that time, which is in the western showbiz makes an artists popular and UFA was heavily influence by western media which can be proof in their music and promotions.

As far as I remember the rumor with those group members are Inoo X Miyabi, Kumai X Yuto, Airi X Yuto, Risako x Yamada. As I can see at that time Yuto was still the center of HSJ followed by Yamada maybe that is the reason; I don't know

(like AKB except AKB's management has found a way to "maintain" AKB for now so 2 speak).

Morning Musume started before idol agencies embraced market segmentation. AKB48 started out as a way of absorbing as much money from their fans as possible. Due to how many members the 48 family has they can saturate mainstream media. Up-Front tried to push Morning Musume back into the mainstream starting 2013, but it didn't work out.

Pretty much because the popular member graduated. I started to lost interrest in them when Takahashi left. Then after Reina's graduation, they were dead for me

lol I remember these rumors. But there was no proof so people didnt give a damn (I kinda liked it since I'm a fan of HSJ, Berryz and C-ute at that time)

yeah because of that too much coincidence maybe that comment is kinda true like why a new debuted group from both parties will suddenly get a dating rumor, J&A are really scary when it comes to revenge; berryz despite being a nice group didn't rose up ended being disbanded and C-UTE just got their moment recently after several years in Show business I believe there is a hidden force pulling them down before

BK and °C-ute were not even relevant, I can't imagine J&A wasting their time on them.

imo Berryz and °C-ute didn't get their big break due to UF's management simply being bad at promoting them and because there was little interest in female idol groups other than AKB48. °C-ute getting more popular recently is due to the idol boom, UF giving H!P groups better promotions and °C finding their own identity which works very well for them. Meanwhile Momochi was the only one doing good in Berryz in variety shows and she even got to work with other Johnny's talents like Arashi.

That dentsu conspiracy theory lol

Wasn't there something about AKB being supported by Korean companies or something lol...

I always thought it came out of bitter H!P/Momosu that AKB was rising over their faves tbh since there's no proves of any of that.

Beside, AKB first couple of years were pretty rough, dropped by Sony, and they were close to bankrupt until they started picking up popularity in 2009/2010 and by that time Momosu have already declined for yrs anyway.

I thought idol boom was already over? how come? anyways as you can notice only momochi was invited at Arashi shows, from the rumored girls, there are no other invited; I find it also odd because in terms of talent BZ was overwhelming but they didn't make it; BTW it is just during the early days when they are still fresh FYI they were both invited at Kohaku at the year they debuted  so you cannot say they they are not the relevant during their fresh days and after that J&A started their moves until they see that those groups are not relevant anymore for their time

yeah I remember that the early years of akb that they only sell less than 20K and the CD Type is normal like others lol but hey your kinda correct; I remmember during early years of AKB even during their sony days upto year 2010 H!P fans are really bitter about AKB you see different blogs bashing AKB they even create videos on youtube with anti messages like slut idols but they finally gaveup around 2012 when Love Machine was been surpassed by AKB; I think they finally accepted that 48 groups was an onslaught and their faves are no match in them, although I still see other people very bitter about AKB nowadays they are now using the "my faves are more talented than AKB" arguments lol

I was talking about 2012/2013. It was in 2012 that H!P started to change selling tactics, the groups got a bit more exposure, etc. Momusu and C-ute were the two groups that got the best results out of H!P and increased their fanbase.

I know that they were invited in Kouhaku back in 2007?? Berryz debuted in 2004 so they weren't fresh. And they were a part of the whole H!P 10th anniversary unit/package with Momusu though. It was more about H!P/Momusu legacy than Berikyu getting much relevant to the public. And if J&A really did make a move, I doubt C-ute would have been able to perform once in Mste the following year.

And those couple rumors appear to be more fan ships than legit rumors. Even the Miyabi one was fans mistaking her for another actress.

Morning Musume also isn't the best at reaching their target audience. They have more female fans than most other idols because of the fact that their lyrics are mostly from a girl's point of view and are supposed to be relatable to teenage girls. But not enough females are really into idols, especially in this day and age, not to mention, teenage girls are not the group that will bulk buy their releases and go to their events. They try hard to relate to young girls and yet most of their fans are still older men, so that doesn't really piece together very well. That's a huge reason for their lack of relevance nowadays.

lol what I mean debuted was C-UTE not berryz, Berryz from that start has a very low sale and if you will compare the rumors, the Airi rumor was the most light and was more of a fan ships, berryz rumors are hard it even hit newpapers, that is why I find it that C-UTE managed to remain active while Berryz was under j&A wrath before.

it is really odd that it goes like this Miyabi x Inoo rumor was been published on a tabload, Yurina x Yuto has pictures circulating and Yamada x Risako has low class magazine on it?? I doubt only fans did it, I think what that comment saying is true that UFA did it to gain attention, they thought their group will become popular because that is how western acts gaining popularity during those times.

Morning Musume was already well into their 'decline period' before AKB became popular.

I'm no expert, but I think it's pretty much because there was a time period where they faced scandal after scandal, and basically the remaining members couldn't compete with the popularity of the members who had graduated. Also, the popularity of idol groups faced a serious decline, and it became uncool to became a wota.

I personally don't think AKB had anything to do with the "downfall" of MoMusu and Hello! Project. MoMusu were actually selling much worse when AKB weren't even around or even barely popular. In fact I'd go as far as to say AKB helped their popularity to an extent because they brought back the "Idol Boom" and now MoMusu is selling more than double now what they sold a few years ago. Granted their sales are no where near as high as AKB's are but my point still stands.

As for reasons why I think the popularity of MoMusu and H!P went into decline besides the "Idol Boom" fading away for a good few years.

Popular members leaving and being replaced by far less interesting and less talented members.

H!P songs overall slowly losing their uniqueness throughout the years.

Poor management... This point speaks for itself.

I became a fan during the Platinum Era, I've seen MoMusu's and H!P's career at their lowest.
