✪fancy✪ 371 Posted January 30, 2016 Share Posted January 30, 2016 Example of where people have had a problem with taking from western or white culture? where i'm from, whiteness is the dominant, normalized benchmark to which others assimilate, on account of its acquired "default" status. you can't really take what's essentially force-fed to you. i'll say it isn't impossible for the sake of possibility, but i can't think of an example. the point of what i said before is that non-white people absolutely can and do appropriate from cultures outside their own. some people willfully ignore it when white people aren't doing the appropriating, but that's a biased view. However in a few instances, it can be subjective and people sometimes have difficulty distinguishing between assimilation vs. appropriation. But yeah, it's definitely a real thing.
