But truly, with the amount of time that it took to release this album, it literally sounds the part. Certain songs literally sound as though they were released immediately following and could have very well been included on "Unapologetic" (Desperado, Work, Higher) while others definitely sound like a much more current, up to date sound (Consideration, Kiss Me Better, Same Ol' Mistakes) that she hasn't quite ventured into just yet. I love that Rihanna plays the musical chameleon game so well and it's always a treat to hear her try new sounds, so I'll be really interested if that translates into a elevated set of performances as well. For this moment, I will definitely need to hear her songs through better speakers and let things sit with me for a while, but at least she can take pride in knowing that this sounds like an overall improvement from her last album. Pros: Highly themed release, fresh sounds, good number of tracks, less "poppy" and "hook-laden". Cons: Some songs sound like they were kicked off of "Unapologetic" and should have been left in that era, no definitive "Diamonds" esque anthem nor dance track like "Where Have you Been". There was also two songs that were okay but for an actual album it wasn't worth the wait and not that good. The songs just sounded ther same and it was a dissapointing album overall.
