[Do you agree?] Asians and racism

"I am DONE with these racist AF, upper middle class Asians and their anti-Blackness.

They wanna talk about the struggle of being Asian-American yet they talk SO MUCH SHIT towards Black folks.

YES, Black people, the same ones whose culture of fashion, music and dance you appropriate and re-sell as “Asian swag.†

YES, Black people, the ones you emulate – from the Jordans on your unbound feet to the line-ups on your straight-haired head – but never respect.

YES, Black people, the ones who paved the way for immigration reform, giving your 1st gen parents an opportunity to flee their oppressive country.

YES, Black people, the ones you call “ghetto†and “hood†even though, all throughout elementary, your mom packed you Vienna sausages for lunch because Lunchables were too expensive.

YES, Black people, the ones your parents said to never date cause “they’re too dark†yet, they keep a bar of papaya soap in the medicine cabinet.

These ignorant Asians are a fucking joke. They want the exoticism of being Asian, the social mobility of whiteness, and the ‘street cred’ of Blackness. "

I find it interesting how its targeting Asian Americans who grew up poor from being children of family of immigrans/refugees, because in my experience we tend to live around the same area and are pretty chill...and experience similar things.  :imstupid:

So yeah, I disagree.

how is this upper middle class?

She's saying that their PARENTS were working class but this is directed at upper middle class people themselves, or are you not aware that you can be of a different social class than your parents? The majority of first gen immigrants are working class but not necessarily second gens this isn't talking about them.

And furthermore you're saying that you experienced the same things as them but the stereotypes applied to Asian people and black people are wildly different and they have an impact on everyday life so just because you have the same socioeconomic status doesn't mean ALL of your experiences are the same, because that isn't the only thing that impacts how people treat you. You don't know every thing that goes on in other people's lives. And furthermore there are experiences that black people go through that Asians don't regardless of their class so how can you compare the two?

This is what confused me. I was like uuhh those two things are characteristics of working class first gens. Yeah you can be a different social class as your parents but its not easy jumping from "fleeing an oppressive" country to upper middle class though. lol. most upper middle class Asians came from upper middle class backgrounds. thats why I was like wth when I was reading this.

Not necessarily, it happens a lot depending on what your definition of upper middle class is. I would assume that the OP is talking about AA people who have 'middle class' values and can afford to live comfortably and mostly socialized with other m/c people, not someone who is super rich. it's definitely possible to become that kind of person even though you have w/c first gen immigrant parents if you 'work hard' and get into a good school and get a good job.

Typical example of Hypocrites.

Black people know very well how disturbing and bad stereotypes are ! Black people suffered from this !

Now in this text, some Black people stereotyping Asian People. You know how bad it is, you experienced this s*** yourself, but then You do it to Asians !! You should know better than this !!!

Sorry but this really annoys me.

LOL now who isnt reading clearly? I said SIMILAR. OMG. I just found it interesting how two minority groups who share similar issues are so "against" each other. Although I think the main issue here is the distinguishment between lower class asian americans who are second gen that came from poverty stricken and war ravaged south east asian countries and the other asians that do not come from those areas. The U.S loves to group them up and fucks asian demographic statistics all the time. But thats another story. Anyways like I said I wasnt saying we experience the SAME things. You are putting a lot of words in my mouth.

Anyways, I'm done.  :imstupid:

I don't agree with the last statement generalizing about these Asian-Americans wanting to be exotic with social mobility of white and street cred of black.

Racism is racism. Prejudiced groups can discriminate against other minority groups.Interestingly, I've noticed tension between Asians and Blacks, and its from both groups.
