I've been really worried about the criticism on her looks she might get when she debuts but I never thought it would come from her own fans. This is ridiculous, it can take a tool on her self esteem. I really hope fans stop with the nickname

I agree. I know that her fans mean well, but continuously saying that she has an "ugly" face can make her insecure.

Yoojung Post of the Day: Shipping 101

 

Here's something to lighten up the mood a bit, considering we can't take back what that one Yoojung fan requested during the Guerilla Concert...Now that all the girls have gotten pretty close, pairings have become a popular topic for P101 fans. While Yoojung's friendly with a bunch of trainees nowadays, K-netz have latched onto specific ships.

 

Here's a ranking (based on popularity/buzz on social media/K-communities (open Spoilers for example gifs/pics):

 

1. Doyeon and Yoojung

 

 

Called DoDaeng (ë„댕) by K-netz and Dojung to some extent by I-netz, one of ultimate OTPs of Produce 101. Ever since that "Q: How do I look? A: Like Choi Yoojung" scene in episode 1 the ship's been sailing at full steam. They've been training together under Fantagio for almost two years now and exhibit an emotional closeness and comfort in each other's proximity often reserved for best friends. There's just way too much to say about these two so if someone doesn't make a DoDaeng thread soon I will lmao

 

 

 

Yoojung and Doyeon somehow communicating although they're two tiers away from each other

 

Yoojung: High five 

Doyeon: Scissors beat paper 

Yoojung: 

 

While they're often goofballs together, Doyeon and Yoojung also take care of each other really well 

 

 

 

2. Somi and Yoojung

 

 

K-netz call them SomDaeng (솜댕) while I-netz are attached to YooMi. Ever since they were shown to be on the Bang Bang team together for the Position challenge, fans eagerly hoped that Yoojung and Somi would have some interactions. Although their personalities are quite different, Yoojung and Somi ended up becoming surprisingly close friends and now netizens are eating up all their interactions

Somi's hoodie fell on the floor and Yoojung casually picked it up and slipped it on her head 

 

A good part of the appeal for SomDaeng is how Somi always looks like the unnie even though she's a year and a half younger than Yoojung 

 

 

 

3. Chaeyeon and Yoojung

 

 

Called DaengDaeng (댕댕) by K-netz because they both have nicknames with "daeng" due to their puppy-ish cuteness (daengdaengii (댕댕ì´) means cute dog in Korean). I-netz haven't given them a pairing name yet (it might be hard considering YooYeon, ChaeJung, etc are all probably taken). A surprising pairing for some, the two allegedly got closer being on the Yum Yum team together. Chaeyeon is two years older as a 97-liner but she plays with Yoojung quite well.

4. Sejeong and Yoojung

 

 

Dubbed TwoJung (투정) by K-netz, Sejeong and Yoojung have literally only had one interaction onscreen so far and people are all over them. K-netz were surprised that in their interaction Yoojung 'took the lead', so now they're anticipating how their dynamic's going to play out in the future. How can people not be excited when the final leg of the Holy Trinity is finally interacting? 

 

 

Stylist: *looking for a volunteer for a demonstration*

Yoojung: Unnie raise your hand it doesn't look like he's gonna choose us anyway.

Sejeong: Oh okay.

 

Stylist: *doesn't choose them*

Yoojung: See see I was right lol

Some honorable mentions are Soyeon and Yoojung and Dani and Yoojung, but despite all the interactions between these pairings K-netz don't seem that excited by these pairings. It's likely due 1) K-netz are still kinda sleeping on Soyeon 2) TwoSo (Soyeon and Somi) often outclasses any other Soyeon pairing and 3) Dani's recently been eliminated 

 

 

Same age friends but as usual, Yoojung looks like 14 compared to Soyeon

 

Soyeon called Yoojung out during the Relay Question segment because of how shy and awkward Yoojung can be during interviews onstage when usually Yoojung's silly and outgoing around friends

 

 

 

Popular trios involving Yoojung are Doyeon, Yoojung, and Somi (DoDaengSom ë„댕솜) and Soyeon, Somi, and Yoojung (SoSomDaeng 소솜댕).

Ahh I thought stanning yoojung would be a quite peaceful experience, seeing as she's had no controversies, carries herself well on the show and gets along with the others. So hearing about the comments on her looks (coming from her own fans at that wtf) is really disheartening. I just hope so badly that her looks won't ever be a topic of discussion when she debuts because that's not what she needs or deserves

Sejeong x Yoojung moment was the best thing from ep 10. I was shocked that Yoojung take the lead and Sejeong followed lol. It's usually the other way around. I hope to see more of them in the future.

So glad I found this thread while searching on the web for whatever Yoojung information I can find. I'm loving all the stuff posted in this thread.

 

I originally found out about Produce 101 from the This Week In K-Pop podcast, and when I started watching, I found it a little strange that they put this girl as the center for Pick Me, because she wasn't the kind of classically beautiful girl that's usually featured as the center. She was adequately cute as the center, and I chalked up the decision to put her as center as cultural differences in beauty standards. I didn't give her another thought after that.

 

When she politely ended the phone call while crying her guts out during the hidden camera in episode 5, I thought it was precious and cute--that she was so considerate even when emotionally distraught. And she cried like a little kid, which is really cute too, since teenagers are usually very image-conscious and want to appear cool.

 

And then the moment that changed everything. The now very famous beastly performance she put on during Bang Bang--when that moment happened, my head exploded. There was such cognitive dissonance that I was just completely dumbfounded. WAIT. That's the same girl??? The one that would never stand out if she just stood there among all those classically beautiful trainees (and many with plastic surgery enhancements), and is kind of shy and timid? That's HER?!!

 

Seriously, guys. That is the kind of performance that births stars. You know how Hani's performance captured by that now very famous fancam made her a star and catapulted EXID into the limelight? Yoojung's performance during Bang Bang was like that, IMO. She hasn't even debuted and she's already had her star-making moment!

 

From then on, I started to really pay attention to her. And the more I do, the more I love this adorkable, shy, timid, kind, and polite girl who while is not a classical beauty, has such unique charm that's hard to find. There's no fake aegyo, which is the kind of genuine personality I have a soft spot for (though all idols on some level have to play it up a bit for the camera since they are in the entertainment business. Her adorable countenance is a lot less over-the-top unlike many idols who get irritating with out-of-control bubbliness). And the fact that she turns into a total fearless charmer on stage is also something I love, especially when contrast with her off-camera personality. I love that contrast, and usually when girl groups have members with that quality, they become my bias (Mina and Tsuyu of Twice, for example).

 

Yoojung to me, is living proof that a girl does not have to be beautiful in the classical sense to capture hearts. Her personality, talent, and values are plenty enough to outshine many girls who are conventionally much more beautiful. She's now firmly on my list of biases to keep an eye on in all her future endeavors.

I love how the reason why Yoojung's finally being a proper unnie in this clip is because Somi took her chocolate pudding
