Yoojung went to school today (I assume she's been on some kind of break due to Produce 101) and students have been taking a bunch of creeper shots and sending them to their friends

She's still in school right now so more pics are sure to come...There's some confusion over what grade she's enrolled in (some K-netz are claiming she's going to repeat a year) and there's some overall confusion as to why she's back at school when Produce 101 filming's still ongoing.

Yoojung's fanbase in Korea is HUGE compared to the her international fanbase. Just compare the number of views on her Bang Bang fancam on Youtube (180k, lots of other fancams have similar viewcounts) vs. Naver (800k, easily 2nd most viewed) to get an idea.

 

It's interesting because I think the reason why there isn't as much international chatter for Yoojung is because a lot of her "stan-attractor" charms fly under the radar for I-fans simply because most are not fluent in Korean.

 

For example, the way Yoojung speaks is very unique, and K-fans often comment things like "Yoojung's speech mannerisms are sooo cute ã… ã… " on social media. In fact, just the way she said "I'm okay" after she tripped during episode 1 was different than the way someone would normally say it in Korean, and many viewers thought that it was adorable. Since that kind of difference in speech cannot be translated with subtitles, I-fans really are missing out on one of Yoojung's 'charms'. For a native Korean speaker, it's obvious that these unique mannerisms are natural and not "forced aegyo" and it adds to Yoojung's title as the trainee who is effortlessly adorable. K-fans are quite averse to idols who fake their cuteness so they find Yoojung's natural cuteness a work of art lol

 

Also, Yoojung's genuinely kind soul is harder to pick up if you're an I-fan. Though many can tell Yoojung's a nice kid in general, there's absolutely no doubt for native Koreans that this girl's niceness is totally ingrained into her being. For example, during the hidden camera Yoojung stayed on the line and said "Goodbye, I'll hang up now" when the rest of the trainees simply hung up or yelled something like "You're terrible!!" into their phones. It was hilarious that Yoojung even bothered to say something so formal while hanging up and it shows that Yoojung's politeness and consideration for others is practically a reflex. A small detail like that would probably go over many I-fans heads while it'd be super obvious to any K-fan.

 

In general, Yoojung also hits a lot of Korean 'appeal' points (genuine kindness, candidly cute, funny reaction faces), the biggest being her "gap moe", for lack of a better term. She's the ideal cinnamon roll offstage and incredibly charismatic and confident onstage. Usually shy idols are lacking in stage presence and confident idols have more blunt personalities, so Yoojung is 'the best of both worlds' for K-fans because she is a candid, adorable baby who transforms into a true performer when need be. And for Yoojung, neither side of her personality is forced, as she is cute without trying and she genuinely loves performing.

 

I hope this sheds some light on why Yoojung gets a lot more attention from K-fans, from someone who is a native Korean speaker (and who has lost a lot of fluency over the years lol)

A good number of Yoojung fanaccounts have popped up for Yum Yum, beware of slight spoilers.

 

 

• Sadly, they cut out the "killer" wiggly high note Chanmi and Yoojung were practicing and replaced it with a lower/shorter note
• Chanmi and Somi took those parts (I assume since Somi's the center and there could only be one main vocal once the 7 member group was solidified)
• Yoojung therefore took some rap/singing lines, but was definitely more of a subvocal
• K-fans in general thought it was a shame because the broadcast made them look forward to the wiggly high note and they were let down when the new note didn't have that much impact
• The lack of "killing" parts like the wiggly high note, etc kept the performance from being "legendary" but it was good nonetheless
• Yoojung's expressions/dancing were obviously great
• Yoojung, Somi, and Soyeon had the most charisma
• Yoojung's fanservice when not performning was surprisingly on point
• She made hearts with her arms and hands towards her fans and kept smiling whenever she looked at them
• Her fans were shocked at how good she was at fanservice because they thought she'd be shier about it
• In general Yoojung just seemed really thankful towards her fans
• K-fans who attended the showing think that Yoojung's fandom was potentially bigger than Sejeong's
• During the post-performance interview, Yoojung started crying (probably out of sadness of this being P101's last set of performances until the final group debuts)
• She was full on sobbing for like 3 minutes and first Somi and then the rest of the team started crying
• The whole time she was crying the audience chanted "Don't cry, don't cry"
• 

   

• When Yoojung was turned away from the audience trying to compose herself Siyeon said "Everyone, you guys get upset too when Yoojung-unnie cries, right? Don't cry unnie"
• K-fans noted that Yoojung has gotten to be really close with the whole team, evidenced by:
• Somi squeezing Yoojung's shoulder and wiping her tears away when they were crying
• The already infamous SoYooMi kidnapping
• Somi and Siyeon acting like Yoojung's unnies (they're both younger than her lol)
• Somi pulling Yoojung by the arm while they left the stage
• (Just compare those accounts of skinship/friendliness to the slight air of awkwardness between Yoojung and Somi in their scenes together in Bang Bang rehearsals)
• During the final goodbye when appealing for the audience to vote for their teams, Yoojung made a 'clicking a button on a remote' gesture even though this time the audience had to vote by dropping off their wristbands lmao

I've found a bunch of random facts/gifs from K-communities that spend quite a bit of time stalking stanning Yoojung and I thought it'd be fun to do a series of "Fact of the Day" posts!

Yoojung Post of the Day: Nicknames

Yoojung's notorious in K-communities for being one of the most meme-y trainees, and consequently, has the most nicknames out of all the trainees. Here are some of the most prevalent:

Yoodaeng (유댕) , also Yoodaengi (유댕ì´)

This is a combination of the 'Yoo' in Yoojung (유정) + the 'Daeng' in Daengdaengii (댕댕ì´). Daengdaengii is a word Koreans use to refer to cute dogs (throw ëŒ•ëŒ•ì´ into Google Image search to get an idea). Yoodaeng is by far the most common nickname used by K-netz and refers to how Yoojung looks and acts like a little puppy.

 

This nickname is often used by K-netz when giving pairing names to any Yoojung + P101 trainee ship, so Somi + Yoojung = SomDaeng, Doyeon + Yoojung = DoDaeng, etc etc.

 

Bbahyomi (빻요미), also Bbahyoojung (빻유정)
Please please please be conscious of any DC gallery icon or gif in general with the character ë¹» in it because it references this pretty controversial nickname of Yoojung's. "Bbah" used to be a derogatory term for someone ugly/someone with a blown out face, and Yoojung fans "reclaimed" the word to describe her not particularly pretty but cute, mochi-like face. At first they combined it with the term 'gwiyomi' (괴요미), which I'm sure you all refers to a cutie-pie, making the nickname bbahyomi, and they eventually began to use bbahyoojung as well.

 

While it's widely-used in the DC gallery/smaller K-communities, if anyone ever refers to Yoojung as bbahyomi or bbahyoojung in Youtube/Naver comments, other K-netz often reply angrily that the nickname is disrespectful, etc. To make an analogy, it's a nickname that a community like 4chan would use unapologetically while the general public would find it very inappropriate.

Overall, bbahyomi really is a harmful nickname because it suggests Yoojung is ugly and it could seriously give her some insecurities about her face (she's only 16 in international age after all), so it's an issue that her hardcore (and generally older male) fans are using it so freely.

 

Yoodyung (유뎡), also Yoodung (유ë©)

Pretty straightforward, just how a Korean would say Yoojung with a lisp. It pokes fun at how Yoojung is a bit of a crybaby and has a very youthful way of speaking. Also, Yoojung often lisps if she's speaking while crying (refer to her

 when she says, "I promised...Or else PD-nim would get in trouble" her lisp should be noticeable even to non-native speakers).



In general, adding a lisp to someone's name is often a way of creating a cutesy nickname in Korean, but Yoodyung and Yoodung specifically have a extra layer of meaning, as they refer to Yoojung's endearing crybaby tendencies.

 

Roe Yoojung (뢰유정)
Far less common, but a fun one nonetheless. Notably, Yoojung has not put any efforts to make a 'professional' autograph yet and simply writes out her name in standard hangul when giving out signatures. When she first went to school again after Produce 101 started airing, pictures of the honest but cute autographs she gave to classmates spread very quickly. She often wrote so illegibly that the ã…Š in ìµœ turned into a squiggle that looked like ë¢°, and it gave K-netz quite a laugh so they occasionally refer to her as ë¢°ìœ ì • instead of 최유정.

Fun fact, Yoojung's label-mate and BFF Doyeon also writes her name out simply when giving signatures. Guess Fantagio hasn't given them Autograph Creation classes yet...

If any of you are also Haein fans, you'll know that Haein, despite her 'tough unnie' appearance as a 94-liner, loves cute things and skinship. It seems she has a soft spot for Hyeri and Yoojung's cuteness in particular, as she's always the one reacting the most when Hyeri or Yoojung do something cute. K-netz have noticed Haein's a go-to reaction shot for things Yoojung-related now

Yoojung Post of the Day: Cool Like Ice Tea

Some of you may have seen this selca of Yoojung from school:


Surprise surprise, this image is actually a still frame of a video that a schoolmate accidentally took while trying to get a selfie with Yoojung!

 

The student recounted: 
 

"I meant to take a picture but it made a video instead. While I was flustered, Yoojung smoothly went 'Video~~~' It came out like this ã… ã… ã… ã… ðŸ‘ðŸ‘"


If you read Yoojung's lips, she's saying "dong yeong sang (ë™ì˜ìƒ)" which is the Korean word for video.

As timid as Yoojung can be, put her in front of a camera and she's cool like ice tea

Yoojung Post of the Day: Friendship 101
 
Initially, Yoojung was introuduced as a shy introvert in P101, and said herself that she is slow to open up to strangers. As a result, it's interesting to see the friendships she's made, as the huge difference in her demeanor when dealing with strangers (quiet, awkward) vs. close friends (bright, weird af) makes it easy to tell who she's close with nowadays.

Here's a breakdown of the friendship 'tiers' and how Yoojung acts within them. Please note that the example trainees for each tier of friendship isn't exact, as some could be argued to be more or less close to Yoojung. Open the spoilers for example pics/gifs.

Strangers

Behavior: Quiet, awkward

Honestly though there's a reason why Doyeon and Yoojung (DoDaeng) are one of P101's biggest OTPs, as there appears to be a layer of emotional closeness that's exclusive to these two.

Yoojung Post of the Day: Avenger

 

Looks like we have our first Yoojung controversy on our hands courtesy of episode 10...I mean it had to happen at some point, right?

 

During the scene where the top 22 were choosing parts, some of you might have noticed that the camera spent a lot of time focusing on Yoojung's expression when Hyeri took Doyeon's spot in Subvocal 6.

 

 

And then there was that weird flashback to Hyeri right before surprise, Yoojung took her position.

 

 

So what happened? Simply put, Yoojung took revenge on Hyeri for Doyeon 

Staff: Yoojung-yang there's been talk that you got revenge (for Doyeon)?

Yoojung: A...ha...heuehueheuhue   

Yoojung: When Doyeon was switched I felt a kind of sting in my chest, so it may seem that way—but I had other reasons (for choosing that position) 

 

There's been discussion of the situation (Hyeri fans seem to be taking it a little more personally because she was saying "My heart was crushed" etc etc) by K-netz and the basic reactions have been:

• If it wasn't revenge why would Yoojung pick Subvocal 6 over Subvocals 3, 4, 5?
• Well lots of trainees were fighting for Subvocal 6 so it could just be a pretty part
• This is total DoDaeng fuel lolololol
• Looks like Yoojung and Doyeon are close enough that something like this would bother Yoojung enough to take revenge
• The staff asked her first if it was revenge and it seemed like she was just joking/playing along
• All the trainees were moving each other around anyway and Yoojung was cute so people need to chill

The general consensus is that yes, Yoojung was being rash, but it really wasn't that high stakes of a situation so it really isn't a reason to drag her. Most agree that getting revenge for Doyeon was the primary reason Yoojung chose Subvocal 6, though.

 

When I first watched the scene I thought it was funny (I didn't know Yoojung had it in her to be that petty lmao) and it's not like Hyeri was innocent either, as Doyeon looked a little betrayed when Hyeri moved her.

 

If anything it really is DoDaeng fuel (lots of K-net livetweets during that scene were "DoDaeng ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹", etc) and some people on twitter are talking about how Yoojung is a total Slytherin now (instead of Hufflepuff? lol) What do you guys think?

does anyone know the deal with this video? there are some comments about something i don't understand and it's so heavily downvoted.. compared to the second one

 

 

Not a Yoojung Post of the Day but to clear up the confusion about the dislikes of that first video, it really is concerning the "bbah" (ë¹») controversy that I mentioned before concerning nicknames some Yoojung fans use: bbahyomi (빻요미) and bbayoojung (빻유정).

 

"Bbah" is a slang term used to describe blown out/ugly faces and is very derogatory, to the point where even Koreans don't always know what it means because it's so rarely used in verbal speech because it's that harsh and crude. Mainly Yoojung fans on her DC gallery use it and claim it's a joke ("She's not good looking but she's cute") but basically everyone else thinks it's super harmful and disrespectful.

 

The 18+ comments on those Youtube videos are saying something along the lines of "How could you say something like this to someone who's not even 18 yet..." etc, because giving someone a nickname including "bbah" is a surefire way to make someone feel like terrible, good intentions or not. 

 

So what happened in Yoojung's interview? During the interviews, Hwang Auntie was relaying requests from each trainee's fans, and the fan that was picked for Yoojung (presumably from her DC gallery) asked her to say "Shimkoong Bbah Power!" (심쿵빻파워!) which is something like "Heart Attack Bbah Power!" Basically, the fan wanted her to strike a generic magical girl power-up pose (hence why Hwang Auntie mentioned Sailor Moon) and act as if she were harnessing the power of "bbah" or "ugliness".

 

It seems the staff member chose that fan's request didn't realize that the fan was saying "bbah", as it seemed Hwang Auntie and the other trainees thought the fan just meant "bba" or "bbak" (generic action-y sounding sound effects). "Bbah", etc, is used so frequently only inside a small niche of Yoojung fans that the general P101 fan (basically anyone who's not Yoojung-biased) would not realize that the fan actually meant "bbah". Even the fancam uploaders were oblivious and put "bba" (ë¹ ) or "bbak" (빡) in the video titles, but I think Yoojung really might have understood what the fan meant. Just look at her expression when Insun first says "Shimkoong Bbah Power":

 

 

Her smile falters and she hesitates, almost as if thinking "Did I hear that right??"

 

 

She eventually ends up laughing it off, as Insun and the other trainees appear to think the "bbah" is referencing something else or some nonsense phrase.

 

Fans in general are angry because it was already bad enough that some Yoojung fans were using "bbah" so liberally, but for one of them to put Yoojung on the spot like that when they don't know how she's taken the nickname is incredibly disrespectful and potentially damaging to her.

 

I personally couldn't believe my ears when I heard "bbah" and hoped the fan was referring to a pre-existing magical girl phrase...I hope Yoojung doesn't mind the nickname, but knowing how emotionally fragile she can be I'm totally side-eyeing the fan who sent that request

Yoojung Post of the Day: Shipping 101

 

Here's something to lighten up the mood a bit, considering we can't take back what that one Yoojung fan requested during the Guerilla Concert...Now that all the girls have gotten pretty close, pairings have become a popular topic for P101 fans. While Yoojung's friendly with a bunch of trainees nowadays, K-netz have latched onto specific ships.

 

Here's a ranking (based on popularity/buzz on social media/K-communities (open Spoilers for example gifs/pics):

 

1. Doyeon and Yoojung

 

 

Called DoDaeng (ë„댕) by K-netz and Dojung to some extent by I-netz, one of ultimate OTPs of Produce 101. Ever since that "Q: How do I look? A: Like Choi Yoojung" scene in episode 1 the ship's been sailing at full steam. They've been training together under Fantagio for almost two years now and exhibit an emotional closeness and comfort in each other's proximity often reserved for best friends. There's just way too much to say about these two so if someone doesn't make a DoDaeng thread soon I will lmao

 

 

 

Yoojung and Doyeon somehow communicating although they're two tiers away from each other

 

Yoojung: High five 

Doyeon: Scissors beat paper 

Yoojung: 

 

While they're often goofballs together, Doyeon and Yoojung also take care of each other really well 

 

 

 

2. Somi and Yoojung

 

 

K-netz call them SomDaeng (솜댕) while I-netz are attached to YooMi. Ever since they were shown to be on the Bang Bang team together for the Position challenge, fans eagerly hoped that Yoojung and Somi would have some interactions. Although their personalities are quite different, Yoojung and Somi ended up becoming surprisingly close friends and now netizens are eating up all their interactions

A good part of the appeal for SomDaeng is how Somi always looks like the unnie even though she's a year and a half younger than Yoojung

Called DaengDaeng (댕댕) by K-netz because they both have nicknames with "daeng" due to their puppy-ish cuteness (daengdaengii (댕댕ì´) means cute dog in Korean). I-netz haven't given them a pairing name yet (it might be hard considering YooYeon, ChaeJung, etc are all probably taken). A surprising pairing for some, the two allegedly got closer being on the Yum Yum team together. Chaeyeon is two years older as a 97-liner but she plays with Yoojung quite well.

4. Sejeong and Yoojung

 

 

Dubbed TwoJung (투정) by K-netz, Sejeong and Yoojung have literally only had one interaction onscreen so far and people are all over them. K-netz were surprised that in their interaction Yoojung 'took the lead', so now they're anticipating how their dynamic's going to play out in the future. How can people not be excited when the final leg of the Holy Trinity is finally interacting?

Yoojung: Unnie raise your hand it doesn't look like he's gonna choose us anyway.

Sejeong: Oh okay.

 

Stylist: *doesn't choose them*

Yoojung: See see I was right lol

Sejeong: lol

 

 

 

Some honorable mentions are Soyeon and Yoojung and Dani and Yoojung, but despite all the interactions between these pairings K-netz don't seem that excited by these pairings. It's likely due 1) K-netz are still kinda sleeping on Soyeon 2) TwoSo (Soyeon and Somi) often outclasses any other Soyeon pairing and 3) Dani's recently been eliminated 

 

 

Same age friends but as usual, Yoojung looks like 14 compared to Soyeon

 

Soyeon called Yoojung out during the Relay Question segment because of how shy and awkward Yoojung can be during interviews onstage when usually Yoojung's silly and outgoing around friends

Are you guys talking about the "Kkul kkeo~~~~eok!" high note that Yoojung was practicing? The way Mnet wrote it out on their video title was "꿀꺼~~↗엌~!", which takes into account how it's sung, but the original lyric is "꿀꺽" or "Gulp" in English.

 

If you're considering titles, Yoojung is known as the master of expressions so you could go for Expression Queen, etc. Yoodaeng is very modest and cute like Yoojung though  Though that might make the "#Daeng" a little redundant then?

 

 

Truly the Queen of Expressions   It still boggles my mind that Yoojung works badass concepts better than cutesy concepts considering how tiny and cute she is lol

Yoojung Post of the Day: Sick Puppy

 

Some of you may have noticed that Yoojung was missing for a lot of the cuts during the Crush training footage, and it's because she actually got sick for a few days during the week between the Guerrilla Concert and today's episode 

Look at the left corner and Yoojung's looking a little droopy. In the next scene when Yoojung's group goes up to show Kahi and BYJ their dance, BYJ says "Since Yoojung is hurting/feeling sick, Chaekyung will fill in for her." (note that Chaekyung and Yoojung are both Subvocal 6 on different teams). In the following rehearsal footage, Yoojung suddenly disappears, not even showing up in the scene where the trainees surprise the trainers with a cake and flowers (which presumably all happened on the same day).

 

K-netz think she had a fever (as a cold wouldn't have kept her from at least sitting in and watching rehearsals) based on the photoshoot/interview scene that came afterwards. The mask she wore on the way to the photoshoot suggests she was still recovering at that point:

, Yoojung's reactions are way more lowkey than usual (especially compared to the other trainees who are hyper af) and she doesn't sit up straight the whole time:

Yoojung Post of the Day: Pre-Fantagio Days

 

Here's a super long post of the day to make up for the days I missed!

 

Yoojung's one of the P101 trainees with the longest training periods (4+ years), pretty impressive considering she's one of the younger trainees. Amazingly, she's actually been dancing and training longer than that, literally since she was a kid. For about 2-3 years before she joined Fantagio, Yoojung trained with Def Dance Company, a very well known dance company in Korea.

 

Can you recognize Yoojung? Turns out Yoojung was actually tall as a kid lmao, but she still had the same amount of swag

Here are some videos of fetus Yoojung dancing. They're very low quality since in 2010 Def sadly didn't know how to upload high quality videos   At the time of these videos Yoojung was around 10-12 in international age:

So how'd she end up at Fantagio? So Def Company hosts auditions occasionally and partners with different companies (ranging from YG to Key East, etc) and in 2011, they partnered with N.O.A. Entertainment and hosted auditions. Guess who the lucky winner of the audition was?

In 2011, N.O.A. Entertainment revamped its image and changed its name to Fantagio Entertainment, which is where Yoojung practiced as a trainee until Produce 101 started. Yoojung wasn't kidding when she thanked Fantagio in her speech for raising her—she really did spend most of her childhood there 

 

Interestingly, Def Company still supports Yoojung even though she only spent a few years there. On their social media accounts they told people to vote for her and occasionally linked to her fancams:

Maybe bubu/nuninu have some clue of how her koreans fans are called...

I didn't actually know it was a thing for fans of individual idols to give themselves a name forgive me the last time I stanned anything k-pop related was APink in 2012 lmao

I dug around and found Yoojung's biggest fan cafe is called 'Yoodaengi Narsha' (also it already has 14k+ members geez). I have no idea what Narsha is supposed to mean (besides Narsha the idol lol) and I think it's more of a generic fanclub name, as Sejeong's is Shining Topaz or something and her fans don't call themselves that.

 

At this point, I don't think Yoojung fans have 'named' themselves yet so we just might have to wait and find out what Yoojung's K-fans decice on.

 

If anything, incorporating 'Daeng', 'Yoodaeng', 'Yoodaengi', etc might be a good idea because a lot of Yoojung fans on K-sites post things like "daeng morning~" and "daeng night~" instead of "good morning~" and "good night~" which I think is kinda cute 

 

Yoojung Post of the Day: Brown's #1 Fan

 

When discussing presents to give to Yoojung, Korean Yoojung stans often bring up merchandise of the LINE character Brown.

 

 

 

Not too long after Yoojung started attending school again, K-fans noticed that Yoojung carried a lot of Brown-related merchandise, and they soon realized that Yoojung's basically Brown's #1 fan 

Notice that she makes sure she has her Brown keychain on different backpacks (or maybe she has more than one lmao)

 

Yoojung and her Brown neck pillow, she's had it with her backstage for just about every performance

 

And Yoojung's DC gallery fans even included Brown on their support banners:

Some fans who were holding them in the crowd later recounted that Yoojung burst out laughing when she first saw Brown on their banners    Also the words on those banners say, "You're pretty Choi Yoojung" so I think Yoojung's DC gallery was lowkey apologizing for being the main source of that 'bbah' (ë¹») controversy I mentioned earlier.

 

And of course, being the memers they are, K-fans have made some wild photoshops of Yoojung and Brown  :

Mnet released a teaser for Crush's MV it shows the girls recording the song and in a room dancing to it, Yoojung is not in the dance part :( i'm guessing she's still sick :(

Yoojung's dancing so quietly in the back you can hardly notice her, she's wearing all black and is talking to Mina at one point. But she's completely missing from the final pose??

K-fans are going crazy because they've never seen Yoojung dressed in a really tomboy-ish look (and oozing hip hop flair? lol) and they're calling this version of Yoojung: Girl Crush Yoojung  I almost didn't catch that it was her the first time I watched the teaser because she looked so different lmao

So it turns out Yoojung performed on some shows during her time training with Def. She was in a group called D-Kids and after finding out that she was on some random shows from 6+ years ago, K-fans were pretty quick to find the videos 

 

These are from when Yoojung was 10 in international age. Sadly the videos are super low quality again...

Someone on Yoojung's DC gallery spoiled that she shot a CF with Gmarket and Baskin Robbins that's airing starting 4/29! The announcement literally came out of nowhere and all of Yoojung's K-stans are going crazy because it Gmarket CFs do not come easily to rookie idols (idols that have been models for Gmarket include GDragon, AOA's Seolhyun, and BtoB's Sungjae).
