Should I get a tattoo?

I am gonna turn 21 this year and I kinda want to do something memorable. And something that pisses my parents off!

I have been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo for some time now.

Bearing in mind that I'm from a conservative Asian family living in an Asian society, I don't think I can have one that is very visible. I am thinking of having one that is around my ribs, one that I can at least cover up when I work in the future.

Design wise, I am thinking of a small, simple text based tattoo. Font wise, definitely comic sans lololol. Content wise would probably be dedicated to a family member who passed on a while ago.

Have you had a tattoo? Was the process painful? If no, would you want to have one?

if you really know and desires the pattern why not?

i've wanted a tattoo since i turned 18 but nothing appealed to me. just don't do it to go rebel. it will stay on your skin forever (except if you remove it but it's more painful than getting a tattoo and more expensive). be smart  :ohla:

getting a tattoo on your rib will be painful, trust me

a friend of mine got a pretty big symbol on his rib...and since it's so close to your bones, it will be a bit painful

i have one on my back and got it when i turned 18 but it wasn't too bad, just felt like heavy pounding on my back lol

but i suggest if you honestly have thought it out and not smth you might regret down the line, i say go for it

You're turning 21, but you think like you're 14. Getting a tattoo to piss off your parents... well might as well get pregnant, get arrested or drop out of college if you want to piss them off.

If you want to do something memorable for your 21st birthday, do something useful like volunteer for charity, feed the homeless, clean your street, etc.

The pissing off parents part was a joke too. Geez onehallyu.

i only have 7 ear piercings, that's about as rebellious as i get. i really do want a tattoo though, mainly because people keep assuming i'm still in high school. you should definitely get a tattoo if you believe it's what you will want many years in the future. just gotta keep in mind that you have to look at it every day, so make sure it's something you know you will love

For how long have you been considering getting a tattoo?

Don't get one done just because some random reason (your age, your parents, whatever) because there's high changes you'll end up regretting it. I got a nose piercing years ago "just because" and ended up regretting. I took it off as soon the healing process ended, LOL.

I think would be a good idea to use waterproof long-lasting makeup to draw where you want the tattoo and leave it to see if the place is good for you.

You should plan the tattoo and start saving money, because a good one will cost a reasonable price. If you change your mind you can spend your money in something else of your interest.

I don't have one yet, but I plan to have. At the moment I'm still saving $$ and looking for a good tattoo artist. I'm also waiting for summer to end, gets much easier to take care of a tattoo when the sun isn't trying to burn you and you don't get invited to go to beach/pool every damn weekend.

"Toujours Belle" hehe ;)

But honestly, if you're sure about getting a tattoo, something personally relevant or something unique is the best way to go. The number of people I've seen with, like, a rose or bird or yin yang tattooed on their bodies...lol

As for me, I have gone through periods where I really wanted a tattoo and was ready to get it then changed my mind completely soon after (I'm 21 as well). So personally I'm not planning to get one. I did go crazy and get 8 piercings though xD

Thanks for being one of the few that bothers to give constructive opinions! The makeup idea is actually pretty good I'll give it a shot.

I have been thinking about it for a few months now. No I'm not the sort that does things on a whim. That's why I'm still thinking about it.

It's summer all year round where I am from so there's no way I can hide from the sun. But I'm gonna get one that can be covered up by clothes so it would probably be not as bad.

And yes, I would have to look for a good artist since its gonna be there for a long time.

Lol no haha. It would probably be something boring and plain. Small black text with my grandma's birthday date.
