Overview:

If you know Mandarin, then you would realize that this song is actually not being sung in Mandarin (國語) but is actually in Taiwanese(å°èªž). 80% of the lyrics in this song are here to enunciate how the song is being sung in Taiwanese and not necessarily providing the meaning of the characters.

å°åŒ—å°åŒ— describes the feelings and hardships for the people who moved to Taipei during the early 1990s to make a living for themselves and more importantly, for the people whom are waiting for them back at home. This song is especially significant and meaningful to R. Chord because R.Chord was actually part of those wave of people who moved to Taipei from the countryside of Taiwan during that time period.

[1] - Lim Giong’s Marching Forward was a Taiwanese hit song in 1990. See

[2] - 林北/被 which is actually “è€å(laozi)/你爸(niba - your dad)†in Mandarin, is an expression used in Taiwanese to refer to oneself.
