THERE'S NO PROPER JPOP FORUM.

I've scrolled around a couple threads and there's was comments said, that THIS is the most active forum for jpop. Yes, I know it considered as asian entertainment, but still most people who joining, have interest to kpop.

So, what the problem?

The problem is with the term jpop itself, there's not many people liking jpop for the sake of jpop. Jpop is also just too diverse, so it could have one united fandom. Many people, like acts separately or smaller fandom dedicated to more specific category of music.

I really ignorant about jpop forums, but I think, that I did fine this little research as example.

We actually have it, and it's long established as well. It's just...dead, compared to here.

Here's the link to JPC: http://jpopcentral.yuku.com/

I can't, for the life of me remember the main reason why a lot of Japanese music fans migrated here though. But imagine if all of us fill that place and make it alive once more. I mean, it was really alive once upon a time.

JPM/JPC used to be really active. i was out of Jpop loop for few years and don't really know what happened to the forum. i still occasionally visit the site and i notice the only active threads over there are the female soloist ones like Kana Nishino, Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi etc.

No offense, but perfume-city has been dying.  Even an admin made his own site due to the die down.

This forum has been active for 17 years  :imstupid:

http://ahsforum.com/forum

The issue with fan forums is that nobody really goes there except for fans of those acts. AHS is a bit more general purpose, but the thing is though is that that place is like a time warp. It's like they think it's last decade still and that female soloists are the center of the industry and they haven't been in years. I look at the posts there and it's really, really out of touch with reality. Like I remember them being completely unaware of who Masaharu Fukuyama and miwa are and being shocked that they were beating Ayu on the charts last year. But who that actually keeps up with Japanese music is shocked by this or not know who they are? AHS is a weird bubble that's stuck in 2006.

I think the main thing that brought people here is that it was busier compared to the other sites. And also the fact that we aren't focused on female soloists who peaked last decade, like JPC. I have a problem with international fandom for the most part. It seems as if a lot of fans are in some way stuck. Like there are a lot of fans who only like idols, so a general site wouldn't really do anything for them. But I really have a problem with female soloist stans. I don't like idols, but at least they are living in today. A lot of the female soloists stans are still stuck in last decade, and it's so weird to me. They didn't move along with the times, and when they get a glimpse of the present, like in the AHS example above, they're shocked.

But then there are some, like the people here and on some other places like Arama and JPS, who really get today. I love it that there are people out there who care about the now and who are open to different things.

I think that a lot of JPop fans got down because their faves were no longer relevant and were discouraged by the rise of KPop. KPop's rise was cited in AramaTheyDidn't's closing letter, along with the inability to access content. The funny thing is that I've never really had an issue accessing content. If anything, things are easier to get now than they were last decade or even earlier this decade. I see more download blogs, with different kinds of content, than I did years ago. I'm honestly amazed at some of the stuff being posted for download so quickly now, especially in the indie sphere. I remember having to buy things and post them, but now there are others who are doing that before I can. It's a great thing in a way, because it shows that there are more people out there now. And music shows. They're much easier to get now. And we can actually live stream things like Kohaku and Johnny's Countdown now. Arama crashed for a few hours after we posted the links to the shows last month. There are people out there looking for this content, but it seems as if few want to give it to them.

Even though we are a smaller community here, I am proud of us, just how I'm proud of Arama. We are pretty much the survivors who are showing that we aren't dead, we aren't relics of the past, but we are here and in the now. I think the future is bright honestly.

A lot of us lurk TBH.

This is another issue.

Isn't Jpopasia still pretty popular? I don't use the forums but I look on the site for the charts and the forums seem active

But aren't they mostly a KPop site now?

Not really. I go there regularly and they post lots about Japanese music, and they are probably the only site that gives updates about the Vkei bands (as far as I know). Whenever a band breaks up they usually post about it. Plus it is really useful for finding out about new releases and what's on the chart. Lol they have jpop in the name. But I think they focus on Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and China all around. The kpop posts have just increased since kpop is popular right now. I remember on the facebook the fans were complaining about the kpop posts lol. It's funny that people complain about jpop not having accessibility when a site like jpopasia is around. You can find out what's on the charts currently, find lyric translations and mvs so...

it was actually one of the sites I first used when I seriously got into jpop. i would spend hours on there lol

I never really hear people talk about that site though. I see people talking about TokyoHive and Arama more than that site.

Idk it's been around for years and is a really useful site. I think less and less people have been visiting though. It's a shame because what other site has daily chart updates and the latest japanese mvs?

We have daily charts and post videos here, as does Arama.

I honestly think everything started to go down hill when J-companies cracked down on how content was spreading. Things were so easily available to us in the early days and that made us so spoiled that when they took it away, most weren't up for the challenged of actually looking for music and shows. This, paired with the easy accessibility of Kpop, drew people away.

And I do have to agree with having your faves popularity die would make for another reason for people leaving. But I never really had that problem.

Honestly, if all the people who lurk Arama actually commented and posted, it would definitely be much more lively over here.

True. I admit I lurk there and I really should contribute. I remember being so upset when AramaTheyDidn't closed.

I remember being very irritated with the whole Hallyuwave over taking it then and it felt like a second Omona more than Arama.
