Do you have a problematic Japanese fave?

So I was going through my Disqus notices just now, and someone on Arama or MK (I don't remember which), called Kawatani Enon my "problematic fave." He's not a fave of mine really, but I openly say that I don't care about him cheating on his wife or lying about being married or whatever. Whatever happens to Becky happens to her because she's a non-entity to me. As long as the music is good, I'll be a fan still (how Fukase of SEKAI NO OWARI of me).

But this got me thinking of other people that I like, and if they're problematic. I'm personally a hard person to offend, so some things that are problematic to others are nothing to me (hence why I sometimes say things and people take them a lot worse than what I intended).

Anyway, I was thinking, and I remembered a conversation me and some people on JPS had about Shiina Ringo being an ardent nationalist. I remember reading a story a while back about how someone went to her concert and said it was like a right wing rally with all the appropriated rising sun flags.

And then I remember reading another story about how some Korean and Chinese fans were mad about her last album cover.

It's interesting though that her Taiwanese concert last year sold out and people were waving the flag in the picture above.

Side note: LOL, aoe's similar thread: http://onehallyu.com/topic/144568-i-would-like-to-invite-all-korean-people-to-shiina-ringos-concert%E2%99%AA/

And apparently the lyrics to "NIPPON" were offensive to some:

But apparently not offensive to that many since it ended up being a hit.

Anyway, this conversation on JPS led to this "fan art":

I couldn't stop laughing! Adding in Yukio Mishima was my idea, by the way.

In the end, some people may find her nationalism offensive, but it doesn't bother me. I just see it as her being very into being Japanese.

Also, I don't see people in Japanese music fandom being as PC as their Korean music counterparts. Like nobody gets bent out of shape about things like cultural appropriation for instance.

So, does anyone else have any?

I honestly don't know, I guess Lecca's use of black hairstyles is appropriative but I've never really given all that a whole lot of salt. I'm not aware of much she's done that's blatantly problematic.

As for my more significant faves Namie/Utada/Goto Maki if they've done anything blatantly problematic then I guess there's that.

Most of the time I really don't care what an artist does. Like I acknowledge it but I still enjoy their music. Unless they're just unabashedly shitty/racist/whatever.

Jpop fans are a lot less vocal on such a wide scale in comparison to Kpop fans, which is probably why you don't hear them talk about it so often. I've seen a few people bring up various things about diff artists over the years tho.

Didn't Namie leave her kid alone to get drunk?

Nope, it's not a problem. If she's not allowed to make this kind of hairstyle, then she's not allowed to make reggae. SHE'S CLEAN!

I said that cultural appropriation doesn't fly with me, as in I think it's just a bunch of bullshit whining. Who cares if you have cornrows or wear a kimono?

I just said it's technically appropriative not that I have a particular problem with it. lol

I really only like Utada now though I think the only reason I'd lose enthusiasm for any fave is if they are misogynistic, abusive, or racist. I don't really care that much who they sleep with or if they love their countries to smithereens unless their nationalism includes invading some other country.
