GoldenRule 741
By now, you all know about the Tzuyu "scandal" and how big it has gotten in Taiwan and China. But did you also know that there was a presidential election going on in Taiwan at the same time? Just before the polls closed, some Taiwanese experts predicted that the "scandal" might actually affect the results. From Quartz: The situation may have inspired more Taiwanese to go to the polls, analysts said. “Neutral voters who previously did not want to go out to vote might show up to cast their ballots to Taiwan-centric candidates and China-friendly candidates could suffer as a result,†Yao Li-min, chairman of the Citizen’s Congress Watch, told the SCMP. Just a few hours later, as the votes were being tallied, it was confirmed that "Taiwanese citizens appear to have elected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Tsai Ing-Wen to be the island’s next president by a decisive margin." An important point about the DPP, from Wikipedia: Founded in 1986, the DPP is the first meaningful opposition party in Taiwan. It has traditionally been associated with strong advocacy of human rights and a distinct Taiwanese identity. ... The DPP is a long-term member of Liberal International and... represented Taiwan in the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation. The DPP and its affiliated parties are widely classified as socially liberal because of their strong human rights stance. The last time there was a DPP government in Taiwan - from 2000 to 2008 - it only won reelection narrowly, and became enmeshed in a corruption scandal. But the opposition party is back, with a president who supports marriage equality. ----- I find this whole thing totally fascinating. The video already has three million views - people were definitely paying attention to this, and a lot of people in Taiwan were expressing sympathy for this poor young girl who was bullied by an entire nation. I do think it's possible that these sorts of things can affect those who are sitting on the fence, or not interested in voting, and get them to the polls at the last minute. What do you think? #Tzuyu4NobelPrize tbh

pikachuwei 672
It's not so much that Tzuyu affected who won, but more that she affected how much the DPP won by. The KMT's younger support base lost a huge amount of voters literally overnight after Tzuyu's video was released.

I've been busy the past week, idk what's happening http://onehallyu.com/forum/21-celebrity-news-gossip/?sort_key=views&sort_by=Z-A Go to "Tzuyu issue summary", "Tzuyu under fire from Cnetz", "Tzuyu nationality issue escalates". Also it's making international headlines worldwide as both Taiwanese government was using her as a political piece and Chinese government had to intervene after Tzuyu made her apology video (go to jyp ent yt channel). Also according to OP, it affected elections to some degree.
