Who is the most popular girl group in China?

Recommended Posts

The position is open. SHE used to be popular but they haven't done anything in a while. SNH48 is niche, they have dedicated followers but I would never call them the nation's girl group since those fans are limited. If I had to choose a non c-girl group to fill stadiums for concerts, SNSD could give most groups a run for their money. That goes to show how mainland girl groups have never been a 'thing' mainly because the solo-oriented market, and most of them are half-assed + low budget attempts anyways.

There's that upcoming idol show for females in attempt to create a girl group that would rival SHE at their peak... maybe, just maybe. Yuehua could do well with their upcoming group if they play their cards right.

See which kr ggs are at what lvl in china.

SM never gaf about mediaplay them about china or catering snsd for c-fans before.Nor  c/isones made much fuss about it  because they never expected SM would bother about chn, since they already have korea/japan  and snsd are always most popular  by default every where all nondeluded peeps already accepted thatso they never cared enough to specifically talk about chn popularity  ,some new kpop fans still don't realise their position in chn though.

Recent hunan tv poll for gayo award from weibo, you need authenticated signed in weibo account for voting in this, and you cannot recast votes there  ,so this gives a pretty decent idea about their fanfollowing and popularity .

Not every random kr/cn girl group can get 241.k votes in a weibo poll.

currently/ snsd>>she>>>snh>>aoa/missA/t-ara/apink/exid/rv etc

for kpop it's snsd I think . But t-ara is doing well .
But boy group>girl group
BB and exo are way more popular

It depends ,which group.

In terms of public recognition, it's still S.H.E.

I saw SNH48 on the first episode of Season 3 of The Brain (最强大脑). I think they are getting some recognition but they're still a niche in China.

As for k-pop girl groups, I think it's SNSD. They appear in the celebrity section of Chinese newspaper a lot.

Thanks for the info.

Different types of music do better in different countries.

Girl Groups (and Girls Generation) must not really be a thing in China.

Well, even SNSD is mostly for younger folks in Korea.

lol scones forget so easily this. the image from their last fan meetings. this one is in shenzhen.

snsd_in_shenzhen.jpg

this one was iconic in shangai. all the seats behind the courtain were cancelled because the lack of interest from chinese fans. and the light sticks over all the empty seats that you see, was so hilarious. my post about this in twitter was so famous for those days. a very desperate move from sm. lmao. t-ara is the most popular girl group.

edit: a better explanation from the last image. in the first below, the original plan, and which sections were oculted with courtain. and the holes from the all other sections. 3000 or maybe 4000 very CHEAP tickets were sold from 10,000 seats. lol

None at the moment. T-ara are riding high for a Korean group and has featured on prominent TV shows, actually working from the bottom up. SNH48 are internet popular and on big occasions get dedicated role of back-up dancers most of the times. There is still a long long way for their to become respected.

Idol career isn't long or fruitful enough. Thus many end up becoming actors and actresses and never maintain a idol singing and dancing route, it's just not as respectable in the Cpop industry. Hard enough to be a idol in China, but then to have to compete with superior Korean idols that have given sufficient amount of training in dance and vocals....Chinese idols are really not competitive enough. But there will be a idol boom, the question is whether the standards are high enough to compete with foreign idols, or Chinese idols trained under the Korean system.

Female idols is a free for all to grab at the moment....I wonder if the new WJSN, if promoted correctly in China with its Chinese members will prove a formidable force. I really hope there is some strong local competition, to push the Chinese industry to invest and better promote their idols, competition is always good to improve the industry from being relatively lazy.
