[DISCUSSION] produce 101: hit or miss?

so, mnet has been in the survival program business for a while now and their most recent survival program, JYP's Sixteen, was a HUGE success that created a group that is a huge success. produce 101 is clearly a way for mnet to capitalize on the trendiness of girl groups along with the success of their previous show and to milk the concept as much as possible. 

 

will this show be a megahit like sixteen or a flop like that one survival program no one ever wants to talk about, no.mercy?

 

 

 

i personally think produce 101 will be a success. i've noticed that mnet is heavily promoting the show on social media and reaching their target audience successfully. the easy accessibility of voting and behind the scenes videos via facebook ect is also already drawing in an international fanbase beyond just previous fans of certain trainees. 

 

just the fact that the entire group will be decided by fan votes alone makes the show seem like it will gain public recognition from the target audience.

The reason why sixteen worked was because there werent too little or too many girls.

Not too little that you got bored of the contestants, but not too many that you couldnt grow to like any of them 

101 is too much honestly

I mean that's the point of the show but having it voting based is going to eliminate the unknown trainees and put them in the same position they were before :[

no.mercy just flopped. no one gave a damn about it and monsta x isn't exactly the most popular group right now....

They have Somi in the show, and that girl is gold. (She's from the Big 3 too, so that doesn't hurt.)

Plus, there are well-known trainees from known companies with already-established fanbases (i.e. Chaekyoung from DSP - ex-Baby Kara, ex-Puretty, also one of my faves...).

So my vote is: hit.
