YG’s newest idol group iKON leads the group of new rookies including GFriend, Seventeen, MONSTA X, Twice, and others who swept the music industry. In addition, after appearing in the ‘Infinity Challenge’ music festival, talented rock band Hyukoh was the talk of the year. Among them, the most noteworthy group was iKON. Their debut song ‘My Type’ ranked number one on the music charts as soon as it was released. Soon after, they held a debut concert at an Olympic stadium with 10 thousand seats and then went over to Japan for a tour. Subsequent songs ‘Dumb and Dumber,’ ‘Apology,’ and ‘Rhythm Ta’ all became a hit and they secured a seat as 2015’s most successful debut. Seventeen was also impressive. In particular, the size of their fans was insurmountable. With every album release, it sold over 100 thousand copies and towered over existing idol groups. Songs ‘Mansae,’ Adore U’ was a big hit and with each day, their popularity in China and Japan appears to be increasing. Girl groups were remarkable during the past year. Among them are GFriend and Twice. GFriend did particularly well with their album sales. Their debut song ‘Glass Bead’ gained much attention and ‘Me Gustas Tu’ turned them into a girl group with an edge. With their girl-next-door image and cheerleader energy, they attracted the ‘uncle fans.’ Twice is a girl group deemed to become the next Girls Generation. All the members are so talented that each any of them could be the ‘centre’ point. They gained attraction through MNet’s idol group audition ‘Sixteen,’ and also gained recognition of their skills. Their debut song ‘Like Ooh-ahh’ swept the charts and secured a spot in the top ten for 3 months since its release. Hyukoh deserves special recognition. Already supported by many fans in the indie scene in Hongdae, their popularity soared after their appearance in Infinity Challenge and they became the nation’s band group. Their song ‘Wiing Wiing’ in 2014 and ‘Comes and Goes’ in 2015 swept the charts. Their strong performance and attractive vocals sung by Oh Hyuk has certainly captured the listeners’ ears.
