Why does Arirang's After School Club seem so awkward?

I'm currently watching Episode 194 of After School Club with Lovelyz (this isn't the first time I've watched the show) and I've always wondered why the show just feels so awkward. One of the reasons it feels awkward to me is because Jimin just seems kind of cold a lot of the time to me. I don't know if it's because she is too concerned with making sure the show is going smoothly or not, but how she does everything just seems like she is having no fun with it and is trying to rush.

Also, I notice that the guests on this show seem very uncomfortable a lot of the time. Maybe it's just me that is seeing it like this, but I want to know if any of you also think that ASC gives off a weird, awkward kind of vibe.

It varies from episode to episode. Sometimes, the guests really enjoy themselves and a lot of fun activities are planned for them and the MCs are on their game. that's when you have a great show.

there's other times where some activities don't bring the best out of the guests and it becomes awkward then.

Is not just MC's fault, is a lot more about the guests too, I have watched some good episodes and if the group is good in variety will do good in every kind of show. But the whole translation to korean and english that kind feel like boring, breaks the mood imo.

Well it's because you have a Korean artist/group who usually only speaks either Korean/broken English so the group has to translate what they are saying as well as translate for them to understand. In contrast, when you have an Ailee or Jessi on the show, the show flows a lot more simply because those two are fluent in English. It's just the nature of how it's setup.

There are also a LOT of awkward guests and the MCs usually go with the flow. Not everyone is YJS who can make any awkward guest engaging just from their skill.

Not only that, the hosts have to juggle between being engaging/fun and not showing bias to the artists which is tough.

Jimin/Eric are both pretty good actually. Jimin never seems cold to me. If anything, I think she genuinely likes a lot of the guests that come on but wants to seem unpartial so she'll go the other way in order to be a good interviewer/MC

I don't really get any awkward vibe from ASC. Maybe Jimin is off some days, and sometimes she's really into it and hyper, but she never really seems cold to me.

And of course the guests are kinda awkward with the show being targeted to an international audience and they don't understand English and have to wait for things to be translated. Watch episodes with English speaking idols like Ailee or something, those are always fun because there's no language barrier.

I think it's cause Eric wasn't there. Kevin and Jimin have great chemistry and MC great when Eric is around but they might just feel a little nervous bc Eric always comes to the rescue when Kevin doesn't read his lines or when Jimin forgets a word in English (they admitted this themselves in the New Year's episodes)  But I like the awkwardness, IDK it's kinda charming to me but that might just be me

The translation and the hosts . I mean Eric and Jimin can be funny , but they are personality is really mature for there age and so is there humor . And this show is supposed to be for the junger audience and when Eric tries to make jokes for 12 year old it is as awkward as it can get.

I'll have to watch one of Ailee's episodes sometime because the language barrier is part of the reason that I assumed it seemed so uncomfortable for some groups.

I think it's because many times the idols who are getting interviewed don't speak english at all or there's only a few members of their groups who are fluent. It makes it awkward and difficult for everybody involved since the MCs not only have to be entertaining but ask questions and act like interpreters at the same time.

Most English speaking idols are already buddies, so it's less like watching an interview show and more like watching some funny friends hanging out. The one with Amber promoting Shake That Brass is a good one too.

Try hosting AND interpreting att he same time on a live talk show. I bet no other entertainment hosts in Korea do what they do. The pressure is high because not only are they interpreting to viewers, but also to the celebrity guests, many of them who dont speak a lick of English.

And interestingly, one doesnt need to be fluent in English to do well in ASC. Eunkwang from BtoB and Jimin of BTS did awesome despite knowing barely any English when thand used to do the old After ASC show.....

jimin isn't cold, she's just not a bubbly personality. honestly people only go after her bc she's a woman; if she were a dude, she'd just be any other mc and her behavior would seem normal. she's good at what she does, especially since she's so young and is so good at quickly moving between korean and english. #JiminProtectionSquad

but seriously, it's awkward because it's live and most of the idols don't speak very good english and sometimes fans ask silly questions. i've noticed it flows a lot better when it's with a smaller amount of guests and/or when those guests are fluent in english.

that bcos jimin is a woman part is a truth it hurts cos it stabs right at the heart

the only awkward thing is the talking with fans part tbh, what with language barrier and sometimes questionable and unexpected questions
