Is it worth to pray?

I pray everyday, every night for a place in internship for three months (I'm a Buddhist). I apply for numerous organizations yet they don't took me in. I hav to confirm my place by this 15/1/16(which is this coming Friday). Currently, I'm praying for a place in my Aunt's company and my cousin's uni (she's a lecturer) yet they r not answering.

I confess to mom about this n she said to keep praying and that struck me to think whether is it worth to hav religion and pray like usual because no matter how hard I work, it is still the same.

Depends on your measure of "worth".

If you're hoping your prayers would be answered (as in, you pray and your wishes get granted), then you might be in for disappointment and think it's not worth it.  But if you're looking for peace of mind and comfort in times of turmoil, I'm told prayers can help.

(I'm an atheist but have family and friends who are religious).

I think it depends on what you're praying for. When I pray, I pray for spiritual guidance. I pray for mental or emotional healing. If God answers prayers, I believe it's these kinds of things that will be more obtainable than praying for something like money, love, or a promotion. As hinted earlier, I don't know if I believe whether or not God personally answers prayers, but simply being able to speak with Him in this way puts me at ease for the time, and I have a moments tranquil. Perhaps just knowing that He's there and He is listening is all the "answer" I need.

I mean whether or not you think religion or praying in general is worth it is something you'll have to decide for yourself.

I'm Catholic and pray for personal comfort, and I guess in times where I need help with something it functions more like a time to reflect on what I need to do.

In my opinion praying isn't going to solve any of your problems directly, and it's not intended to. If you're on the fence then maybe you should consider prayer as more of a guide or comfort than a solution.
