After listening to it for the past few days I have to say that my fave track from Crucial's album is officially Fire. From Redingray probably Shame or Hueng Hai. Still haven't listened to Shoebox yet.

Also, looks like Jay Park is hinting on a new Loco album on twitter, let's wait and see

Meh, I'm a fan of Epik High's earlier work and have most of their previous albums, and I understand why they went more upbeat, but that doesn't mean I can't be critical of their recent output. I'm a fan of artists that have changed up their sound some, yet I still believed they were as good as ever (i.e. Fana, Kendrick Lamar's recent track). Although I'm sure there are people who had never listened to an Epik High album before criticizing them, I don't think that all of the criticism is coming from sources that are largely ignorant of their previous work. I also think it's possible to be a fan of an artist and not really like part of their body of work, whether it's earlier or later in their careers.

I don't think YG forced Epik High to have those idol features, rather they've always liked mainstream appeal (see Love Love Love), which is not really to bash them or anything, since I don't think it's wrong to want that recognition. Plenty of artists do pursue that and still make great music. I believe that Tablo was specifically aiming for Born Hater to be a track full of mainstream rappers confronting claims about why they're popular, and chose those rappers/idols for that reason. (tbh part of their popularity - mainly talking about Verbal Jint & Beenzino here - does come from their looks and educational background, though I think they have both have put out good music before, some of which obviously has popular appeal - Aquaman is catchy af.) Actually to go off on a bit of a tangent, Beenzino = Drake to me. Not necessarily the most skilled MCs, but their niche is good jams, and they do that well. Does anyone else agree with this comparison? Obviously they have their differences, but just their personas and general place they occupy in their respective industries are reminiscent of each other imo. To get back to my original point, even if YG asked them to feature the idols on the track, ultimately I don't think Epik High was particularly against it and might have even welcomed it.

I agree with this entire post. Epik High is ultimately at that point in their career where they mainly want to stay in the mainstream. Hence YG. I highly doubt they would have used B.I., Mino and Bobby if they weren't in YG. Ultimately it's their decision, and while I think their older work is much stronger, Shoebox is still an improvement compared to 99.

As for Beenzino, I think your comparison is correct. He'd have to be delusional if he really thinks his looks/background haven't contributed to his appeal. But he's still very talented (his flow is really great imo), although he's so much stronger when he's in Jazzyfact. I feel like before he joined Illionaire he was a better fit in Amoeba for example, but now he's become Illionairized if that makes any sense. As long as he doesn't go bad like The Q, it's fine.

Somewhat, I always felt like Crucial Star=Drake. Even though Beenzino is better at rapping and Crucial Star is better at singing.

Anyone a fan of loco tho? Not really impressed by his featured verses tbh. seems like a generic rapper but thats just me tho

----------

Anyways, Liked Shoebox. Glad they didnt go the experimentation route like 99.

My Favs were

Lesson 5

Amori Fati

Burj Khalifa
Life is good
Raise The Curtain

Oh yeah, definitely on the Crucial Star comparison. I actually thought of that too after posting lol. They both have that sensitive ladies man thing going on.

Epik High's new album is a huge huge improvement from their last one

Raise The Curtain - started out mellow, didn't expect it to turn out pretty powerful, love the sampling

Spoiler has to be the worst song on that album, can't believe I managed to make it through Tablo's horrific singing -  so proud of myself, I deserve a cookie

at least Amor Fati made up for that mess, probably my favorite track. Jong Wan's soothing voice is a blessing

love it when Mithra and Tablo take turns rapping every other line (Lesson 5), and I have to admit I recognized dok2's voice straight away, not sure if I deserve another cookie for that or not

Burj Khalifa - Tukutz scratching with Turntables, Yankie & Gaeko delivered

overall i liked it, nice production, compared to 99 it's pretty solid

but there is less Mithra in this album, what a bummer

I'm down for a Tablo x Kim Jong Wan project album and a Tukutz solo!!

Mithra only wrote his verses for Encore/Raise the Curtains, Born Hater, We Fight Ourselves and Rich, so Tablo did the rest for him? lol I hope he gets a solo, too (if he wants one) so he could shine more and release the kind of music he wants to...

Still haven't listen to Gaekos, Crucials and Jerry.Ks albums rofl

Crucial Star's album felt too long... I think the track order would have benefited from some rearranging, the front end dragged too much. Checkout was terribly placed, but I hated that song anyways. I think I started laughing over the course of that track (same with I'm the One, but I still liked that song). Wasn't fond of his attempts at singing in high ranges throughout the album, especially in Checkout.

Favorite tracks:

Blessing (absolute favorite)

Become A Man

Pretty Girl (he & lovey make a great combo)

Paris

I'm the One / Same Boy (like both in a bgm kind of way)

Thought Gaeko's album was the best out of the 3. But Crucials has the most replay value imo. and wasnt really interested in jerry k's album. Just liked Triple 10 tbh

The team name “eluphant” was chosen because the elephant and the Japanese porpoise (pronounced Eluka) are our favorites animals so we combined the pronunciation and made the “eluphant”.

(isn't that so cute though LOL  :ahmagah: )

Also Ripple Effect 2 in mid-november [single] and release of his book before the end of the year too :o

I would show the receipts but I'm at work and I can't see twitter or anything here, but he tweeted about Vintage Swings yesterday
