Ghettoe 1,955
I'm on a mission to find an enjoyable K-rapper. My requirements are very simple. 1. An actual flow. Almost every K-rapper raps the same way. Even idols. That forced pronunciation thing is just not my thing. 2. Decent lyrics - I may not speak Korean but it's very easy to tell a nonsensical song. I don't care if you get the whores and have fancy cars. I also don't care which fake gang you're from or why no one messes with you. 3. A pleasant tone. So far only Gary from Leessang seems to fulfill these requirements. PS. Maybe I don't listen to enough k-hip hop but I've never heard a K hip hop song tackle any issues.
Ghettoe 1,955
If its lyrics your after, take a listen to Epik High (specifically Remapping the Human Soul, Map the Soul and part 1 of [e]) You also cant go wrong with the legend themselves, Garion -these guys make it clear that they are Korean rappers, they have yet to write a word of english into their lyrics and they keep their beats really authentic Gary's got a pretty unique flow and style, but sadly Lessang hasnt done anything really noteworthy in a while I should have mentioned, I dislike Tablo and I only tolerate Epik High because of Mithra. I liked some of their old stuff but Mithra doesn't rap enough. Edited July 30, 2013 by Ghettoe
Ghettoe 1,955
Paloalto comes to mind. his flow is pretty consistent, and he can handle a variety of beats I'm sure you've given EH's disco a listen at least once, but like Chrome suggested Garion are a must. or take a look at soul company's past records i would personally recommend checking out Paloalto & Evo's behind the scenes and Goblin Laboratory's Unexpected/Expected Explosion (2 LPs) which i've heard from korean speakers do have meaningful lyrics. anything by fana is good too (who just came out with FANAttidude recently)~ I'll try Garion. Do you guys have any links?
Ghettoe 1,955
That's fine ~ I should add B-Free as well Very old school, raw flow His sound is very chill, laidback He's relativey new though he's only released one record so far but it's brilliant Its called hope Paloalto comes to mind. his flow is pretty consistent, and he can handle a variety of beats I'm sure you've given EH's disco a listen at least once, but like Chrome suggested Garion are a must. or take a look at soul company's past records i would personally recommend checking out Paloalto & Evo's behind the scenes and Goblin Laboratory's Unexpected/Expected Explosion (2 LPs) which i've heard from korean speakers do have meaningful lyrics. anything by fana is good too (who just came out with FANAttidude recently)~ Can you guys link the best of the best! I mean I am going through the youtube links. I am liking this Garion track the best out of the rest... B-Free is okay but I am not interested in hippie lyrics either. Something's off about him... it's not exactly appealing. I confess I am very easy to please. I demand perfection. Ghettoe 1,955
Thanks for the links, if you leave me to browse by myself I get catch the browsing syndrome and end up in other songs. I'm now listening to Phantom and I end up with another problem which always happens when I listen to K-rappers. I become more interested in the singers featured in the songs. Are phantom a duo? Are they even K-rap? Never mind, I've already lost interest... I'm liking Garion though. Edited July 30, 2013 by Ghettoe
Ghettoe 1,955
^I was listening to something that featured Phantom but I think it was just one of their members cause I stumbled on their song Burning and it was like I really like this. Ghettoe 1,955
Speaking of Verbal Hint how did I not mention him .. The man's flow is like butter lmao His sound is more mainstream but it's still impressive Hate me but I dislike Verbal Jint. I went through that road with a Verbal fan and it did not end well. Ghettoe 1,955
OK nvm the post above LOL I will try give him another chance because his tone isn't bad but it's like HE HAS TO PRONOUNCE EVERY WORD. It sounds so forced sometimes. Some of his stuff is catchy as hell. He always features some decent singers so I start singing along and I'm like UGH. Ghettoe 1,955
just bc.. Unf, this is totally my thing. Smooth chorus and just a good blend. I really liked the melody of GL, but wasn't feeling the rap as much but it would be second out of the three, but this. I see this Nuck guy being featured everywhere and I am digging him! Listening to their album and so far Edited July 30, 2013 by Ghettoe
Ghettoe 1,955
I think this may aid us in helping you Do you prefer more of a mainstream sound or more underground? There's rappers with crazy flow from both ends of the spectrum I don't really have a preference in terms of a main stream or underground. For me it's about style and flow not so much sound. It would be very hard to pick because even the current non K hip hop I listen to is the spectrum of complete back to the roots (Gil Scott-Heron, Grand corps malade) to the more commercial (Nas and Kanye). So far really liking what light posted. The melody and the rap just works. PS. Even outside of hip hop, I really only severely stan one K-band which is Brown Eyed Soul and while I like some folks here and there, I've only spent my money on BES and Im Jae Bum. Ghettoe 1,955
Brown Eyed Soul and Brown Eyes have some great music out there, as well as their solos. I've got to go through my iTunes to give some other recommendations though. Amen. Brown Eued Soul - Rainy is pretty good. Ghettoe 1,955
Can I find Minos in Nuol on iTunes. On another note, how many groups is Minos in?
Ghettoe 1,955
https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/minos-in-nuol/id391676096 he's in the sub-unit Eluphant, which you've prolly heard of. he's in a bunch of things like 불한당 (Bulhandang) Soulman and Minos have a duo album called Coffee Calls For A Cigarette, so if you like anything along the lines of Pinocchio, you'll enjoy that. He has two solo albums. Thanks <3 I'm on my cell but I'll check when I get home.
Ghettoe 1,955
Not hip hop but Zion T, I am feeling right now. For some odd reason, he makes me feel like listening to Baby Face. He's like a fusion of multiple artists.
Ghettoe 1,955
Does no one here discuss anything just post songs. Anyway, back to enjoying Zion T lately and some Urban Zakapa. I really like this song though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq6VTT-5u1M
