Jonghyun whom recently did an interview with Newsen revealed the story behind “Depression Clock†which was given to IU. “It was originally written as a song for myself. But because I normally have music discussion with IU, I thought of asking her how to compose so pass it to her, in the end on the next day afternoon, she asked me to sell it to her.â€

Just like the topic, “depression†appeared 20 times and above in this song’s lyrics. Jonghyun said “I used 2 to 3 hours to complete it. I Had insomnia due to some depression, so I just thought of that day’s event and wrote it like writing a diary, so the lyrics are a bit diary-like.â€

He further added, “But this song is not to let one feel depressed upon listening to it. It’s a song written for one to let go of the blues. Just to bear with it and wait for a while more and everything will be better, it’s a story to comfort oneself.†

i really wish an anonymous survey could be conducted on all the idols regarding their mental health and life satisfaction. it would be really interesting to see.

Oh God, the results of that survey would be really sad. :C

According to this article, 40% of Korean actors considered suicide. I think that number would be the same with idols, or even higher. :(

i think so too. some hide it well, but with others you can tell they are battling/battled some form of mental illness :(

Yes, and there's a lot of them. :(

I feel bad for them because even when they talk about their illness or hint at it, people just make fun of them or do not take them seriously. That's why a lot of them decide to just act like everything is okay. But it must be very hard to smile and jump around happily on the stage pretending that everything is all right when they feel like nothing is all right inside.

I wish people would take mental illnesses seriously, and others would be able to talk about them more freely. Even just talking about it sometimes help a little bit.

hmmm found this on wikipedia

On November 6, 2010, during an interview, Lee Joon revealed that he suffers from both insomnia and a severe bipolar disorder. He went on to say "[i had] suffered from insomnia before [my] debut", and that "It was fixed for a bit due to the fatigue after MBLAQ's debut, but it [had] come back recently. [He hadn't] slept for two days [that day]". Furthermore, Lee Joon revealed that the mental and physical stress induced by his busy schedule and inability to sleep was what caused his bipolar disorder.

Depression clock is a really good song. Jonghyun's always been a hard worker and he likes attention and recognition (a bit like Leeteuk but I'm not bashing either of them), I hope he's happy with SHINee's busy and fulfilling year. Beneath that hot body and handsome face, the boy has really deep thoughts and his own music ideology. I am starting to respect him as a musician.

Poor baby. Insomnia is a bitch. They already get little rest so knowing he can't sleep even then makes me sad. Depression is no fun. I learned [through experience] that insomnia gets that creative juice going often though. I wish we could hear everything he wrote:3

I have a feeling if this survey was ever conducted and the results were released, people would still bash idols saying they're "ungrateful" or have "no reason to be sad."

Is that why he's always up in the middle of the night, tweeting? T.T

Does he have lots of song for himself that he his keeping though?   :hurr:

So I guess Shinee (like SuJu) don't often get to have their own songs on their albums.  Perhaps his songs have a better chance of being published with other artists. ._.  (And it still featured him, so yay. XD )

Ummm Jonghyun release at least a song of his writing each album since Lucifer. His compositions is something else though. This one is his first officially released composition. Another one "It's Late" is still unreleased, He performed it on their 5th anniversary.

This reminds me when knetz say something like, "Try going to school and studying hard late at night, etc"

They think idol life is easy peasy and it's nothing and that it's glamorous but it has its sacrifices like any other occupation.
