"Mr. Six," a star-studded story of an aging ex-con brought out of retirement to help his son, soared past the $100-million mark at the Chinese box office last week.

The Huayi Bros. movie -- featuring prominent director Feng Xiaogang in the title role -- earned $67 million in the seven days ending Sunday, according to film industry consulting firm Artisan Gateway, bringing its total earnings to $106 million since its Dec. 24 release. - LA Times

Bolstered by strong word of mouth, Mr. Six, starring veteran Chinese director Feng Xiaogang as a crime lord gone to seed, managed an impressive hold in its second weekend in Chinese cinemas, grossing $34.49 million. The film's evocative theme about China's recent rapid social changes — reflected through the Beijing underworld — has struck a nostalgic chord in China's capital city.

For the full week running Monday to Sunday (Jan. 3), Mr. Six topped the charts, earning $68.5 million for an 11-day cume of $108.45 million as of Sunday (Detective Chinatown, which premiered Wednesday, Dec. 30, came in second for the full week with $66.51 million, including preview screenings). Mr. Six was produced by Huayi Brothers and was well received by critics at the Toronto and Venice film festivals. - THR

With national ticket sales of 44 billion RMB, 2015 was a record year for the Chinese box office. And 2016 is shaping up to exceed it, thanks to both domestic productions as well as the upcoming release of "Star Wars."

The crime drama "Mr. Six" has proved a crowd pleaser in the first three days of 2016. The story is set in Beijing, with renowned director Feng Xiaogang playing the lead role of an aging gangster.

Feng was crowned Best Actor for his performance at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards, regarded as the Chinese-language version of the Oscars. The film also closed the 72nd Venice Film Festival in 2015.

"I'm a southerner, so there are some Beijing dialects in the film that I'd never heard before. It really shows the life of old Beijing authentically. And it's always interesting to learn something new," said an audience member.

"The actors really drew me into the story. The movie is about playing fair, about justice, which is a timeless subject. So I think it's a great movie," said another audience member. - CCTV News

The movie is also set to break the record for highest grossing Chinese-language film in the US in recent years according to the international distributor.

Xiao Fei's message to Liu Ye (WYF's monologue)

That was so... moving. Especially if you watched the film and put the video into context. But even if you didn't... his eyes, his eyes show so much emotion

Is kris acting in it good?

He's been getting positive feedback from renowned critics and the audience (not to mention the director and co-actors and other celebrities) so...

Anyway, here's a monologue he did for the wrap up of his character:
