China Officially Ends Controversial One-Child Policy

China has officially ended its controversial one-child policy, with married couples now allowed to have two children. The change comes amid concerns over an ageing population and shrinking workforce, but some experts say it is too little, too late.

The change, which was prompted by concerns over the country's ageing population and shrinking workforce, was announced in October by the ruling Communist Party and takes effect from the first day of 2016.

The new law means married couples are now allowed to have a second child, but the limit on additional births remains.

Controversial LMAO. Sure, controversial. But doing something to control that dangerously growing population. And for what? The sake of not just China, but the whole world.

Whatever China does, there will always be arrogant people judging and complaining. One child policy, ooooh~ human riiiights~, no one child policy, ooooh~ do we really need more Chinese people~?! :unimpressed:

This is kind of old news. Already condoms sales have gone down and import of high quality Japanese baby products have gone up.

I rather have a large Asian population than an African one. Less violent, hardly religious (Buddhism is not a real religion) and hard working.

Now, if only Japan would up its fertility rate too, then we'd be in business.

The only thing controversial about that was how a lot of parents would would choose to only keep the boys. It would make the world a better place if other countries could control their offspring rates too imo.

That' is not controversial. In some Asian countries this is an old tradition. They believe boys will take better care of them when they're old, ironically women are usually more caring.

Is interesting that, even, with the birth control China is one of the greatest populated countries in the world.

But I guess the fact that most of them are elders does not help a lot.

Time to see how it will work out.

China has been the world's most populated country for at least a thousand years. The one-child policy has only been up for some decades.
