Not everyone celebrates the New Year on January 1.

January 1 is far from the only New Year's Day. Many cultures have other New Years spread throughout the seasons.

This chart shows a small subset of the many New Years that exist among the many cultures on Earth. Because of cultural complexity, it was necessary to combine both religions and nationalities on one chart. Clearly, some people in these countries may have different religious or cultural traditions. Multiple-day holidays are marked on their first day. Holidays that start in the evening are marked on the day of the Gregorian calendar on which that evening falls.

In 2016, many of these holidays will appear on different dates than they did in 2015. In most cases, it’s because they are based on lunar calendars (like the Chinese, Jewish, and Islamic New Years are).

Indians celebrate 3 "new years" celebrations?

No, different states/regions in India (usually divided by language) celebrate New Year on different days but this chart just groups them all under the term 'Indian'. For example, April 14th is the day that people who speak Tamil in India/Sri Lanka and other parts of the world celebrate New Year, and the other two celebrations are probably for other languages.

That as may be, just about every country still celebrates the official calendar (Jan 1st) to ring in the new year.

More and more people, especially younger ones who travel abroad and use the internet get more attached to January 1st than various other dates.
