My laptop is a piece of shit. Should I just get a Macbook Pro?

I've only had PC laptops. I've owned HP (piece of shit) and Asus (ok, I guess) and now I have a Toshiba and it sucks.

It's always popping up error messages saying my memory is low and causing my web browser to crash all the time. But I have next to nothing on this laptop and only use it for web browsing, so how the hell can my memory be low!? If I had a nickle for everytime I ran defrag on this thing...

Maybe it's what I get since this laptop was pretty cheap (300 dollars). I'm wondering if I should just drop 1500 bucks on a Macbook and be done.

Macbook users, have you ever had any issues with it? Tell me about it.

Yes you should.  I have a really old version that i got almost 4 years ago and it works fine still.  I'm sure the newer mac pros will last even longer.  Besides the price idk y people complain so much about macs.  They made my life so much easier.

Try buying an 800-900 Asus and you will have the same quality and longevity that you'd expect in an apple laptop.

Besides, 1500? Around 500-600 dollars of that is easily just you buying a BRAND NAME. And a 300 laptop can last just as long as is needed for a 300 laptop. That is ... as long as the USER of the laptop takes care of it.

So in addition to spending a bit more money on a better quality laptop, you might also want to reevaluate how you handle your laptops before you decide to drop over 1 grand on a "fancy" laptop thinking it'll somehow survive your habits better.

I don't have a macbook but my roommate does and  they are >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> .

You can do so much more on them, but you have to willing to give the coins cause yeah the price

That price is killing me  :omgwtf:

Macbooks have the same lifetime expectancy as cheap laptops. Only get macbooks for artistic stuff like photoshop or movie making, otherwise there is no big difference in what the computer can do.

I've been reading around and always see conflicting thoughts on this. Don't most laptops last around two years? I always see Mac users saying they've been using theirs forever. Idk, I'll keep looking into it.

I have a cheap Toshiba brick too and it fucking sucks, getting my bro's Macbook Pro.

If you commute to uni/job etc and need a lightweight laptop and have cash to spare, go for it tbh.

You feel my pain. I'm thinking seriously about it. Will have to continue my research though, I think.

I work from 8am - 5pm and my laptop just sits on my desk all day until I get home and use it for a couple of hours. I restart it everyday and I only use it for web browsing so I'm not sure exactly what my computer can't handle about that.  :._.:

I think there are better laptops you can get for cheaper. I have a macbook and it freezes up just as much as a typical PC laptop. Probably because its only 2gb ram but still, you can buy a PC with 8GB ram for much cheaper than a Macbook with 4GB ram.

I think the only good thing about Macbooks is the aesthetic appeal and the smooth interface. I have friends who said their macs have just crashed after 3 years.

However, iMacs are wonderful. I'd love to have an iMac.

macs are super easy to use, which is why I bought mine. I've had mine for three years and the only problem I ever had was a broken fan, but that was replaced easily and I haven't had issues with my new one in two years. Since you say you wouldn't use it other than for browsing then this wouldn't be a concern to you, but as I use up a lot of memory I find myself clearing files all the time to make space for new stuff. I kind of which I had gone with a pc for more storage, but knowing me I'd have broken that a long time ago. If you decide to go with a mac just make sure to buy the AppleCare Protection Plan, you never know what might need fixing and it's good to just have it. After the first year coverage is gone you can't buy the plan anymore and I don't recommend letting it run out.

They used to last for ages, I have classmates with macbooks from 2005 that still work perfectly, but newer models tend to overheat very quickly which damages the computer on the inside, considerably shortening it's life expectancy. Don't expect it to last for more than 2, 3 if you're lucky, years, which is just way too short for that kind of money.

I see. Yeah, that happened with my HP. It ran hot all the time because it was an older model and there was pretty much no cooling system and burned out within 2 years.

Thanks for the advice!

What's good about it?

Depends on the model. But IMO it's better. Has better memory, low on getting virus(the Mac too), the processor is about the same speed. The only thing Mac has over it is like photoshop. If you play games on it I would seriously not recommend the Mac. And I think it's best to go with the Samsung especially if your just gonna be just web browsing.

Do you have a Samsung? If so, what model do you have?

My experience with laptop:

Acer - cheap, it was good for awhile. Within the first 6  months, I started having issues with overheating, and sent it back to warranty. It was fixed for awhile, but then overheating came back. Warranty had expired, so I decided to fix it on my own. Found out it was because some inner components were breaking apart, and a piece got stuck on the fan (cause overheating). After that, more and more issues came. Cheap build, cheap price. This laptop is pretty much broken now. Issue with power supply, fan, broken body parts..

HP: This one was a couple of years ago, my second laptop. Terrible experience. The laptop kept randomly restarting. Sent it under warranty, atleast 3 times, however the issue never went away. Luckily, I was able to exchange it under warranty after a year since I had multiple multiple issue.

Sony Vaio: This is the laptop I exchanged the HP for. It was actually really good for a couple of years.  4 years later, it started going really slow.Still using it though.

Toshiba: pretty much what you said. It was good for awhile, but now it lags and keeps freezing. Flash keeps crashing, cause programs to freeze. Just having the brower open, brings my memory usage up to 78-80%.

I'm probably getting a desktop soon.
