Idk, maybe bcz of Genghis khan. But people seem to think it is part of China or sth. Actually, Mongolia has its very own language, and culture.

- used to be part of the communist block

- Japanese invasion of Manchuria

- revolution towards democracy roughly at the same time as USSR

- Mongolian language uses Cyrillic alphabet due to the soviet influence, originally used a different script obviously

- most spoken foreign language is Russian

- mostly Buddhist

- export minerals and textile

- lots of livestock breeding

I was actually curios for a while on why doesn't Mongolia ever appear in news. Like ever. The only things that I have seen reported are the awesome national holidays with people wearing pretty national clothes, horses, camels, etc. Nothing about politics or society.
