(TRANS) Elle Men Interview - Chanyeol

 

You looked especially skilled during the photoshoot earlier, do you practice often?
Chanyeol: In comparison to practicing in front of a mirror, experience is always more important. Due to frequent[ly going for] photoshoots, I am very familiar with the angles or poses that go better with different types of clothes and the like. I can also understand any directions or instructions that the photographer may give.

 

Which do you think is your best angle?
Chanyeol: I feel it’s my right side. (laughs)

 

Feedback can always be either positive or negative, but many people bear an indisputably positive opinion of you. Why do you think this is so?
Chanyeol: When you put it like that, I feel a little embarrassed (starts to look slightly bashful). Whenever we participate in talent shows or other events, I tend to exhibit very natural reactions, some of which are really bright, or doting towards other people, so I guess it may be why people think of me as such.

 

In that case, have you come across criticism from others?
Chanyeol: Yes, I have … for example, on some variety shows, when I make a joke, some viewers tend to think, “aren’t you being too much!â€, and I’ve seen feedback like that online. I don’t think much of it since I tend to joke like that around friends, and they receive it likewise. But ever since, I tend to be a little more careful.

 

Besides the online users who don’t personally know you, have you experienced the people around you criticising you?
Chanyeol: Those around me? Not really. (laughs)

 

Your personality is one that is more straightforward, and very caring to others, and you seem like the type to be very enthusiastic and positive. Do you stay good-tempered even in the face of something displeasing to you?
Chanyeol: My typical personality results in my taking the initiative to enthusiastically participate in anything, and if I don’t give it my all, I will feel very moody. I have a very lively personality, and won’t really grow upset at tiny issues.

 

Under what circumstances will you grow intolerant and throw tantrums?
Chanyeol: I cannot tolerate impoliteness and immorality. In the presence of these, I grow very angry. but I wouldn’t throw a tantrum; instead I would quietly approach the person involved and point out his mistake. From my memory I feel like I’ve really never thrown a tantrum at all. 

 

This is rather uncharacteristic of a Sagittarius, is it really tough to be so tolerant?
Chanyeol: Am I being tolerant? Hahaha, I think I’ve grown used to it. (aegyo)

 

We saw that you kept secretly writing song lyrics. What sort of music do you enjoy listening to on a typical basis? What’s your composing process like?
Chanyeol: When it comes to composing, I really have so much I’d like to say. I enjoy composing music for others to listen to, and often use the computer or guitar and piano to compose at home. once I’m done with my recording, I give it to my bandmates for their listening. I particularly enjoy [composing like] this.

 

What’s your composing style like lately?
Chanyeol: I like listening to all genres of music, so my composing varies likewise. But mostly jazz-pop, about 70% [of my composing] is jazz-pop.

 

At present, you certainly would have made some headway into variety shows and acting. Beyond that, do you have any other plans?
Chanyeol: Everything I enjoy doing, I am already currently doing, such as participating in variety shows, and preparing for a movie … … I think my biggest wish right now is to compose, and have my song recorded and released as a part of EXO’s album.

 

Would you be willing to undergo other new challenges?
Chanyeol: I always welcome new things, if it’s there for me to try then I would like to give it a shot.

 

In that case, are you only interested in new and different things?
Chanyeol: My attitude towards things goes along the lines of  “if I start it I have to finish itâ€, otherwise I will feel very unsettled. As a child, if I began learning a new instrument, I would have to master it to a point where others would praise me for playing it well. That’s my personality, to do things all the way to the end.

 

To be honest, on the surface, such perseverance doesn’t show [when looking at you].
Chanyeol: Yeah? I’ve often heard others say that as well.

 

Have you ever experienced a situation in which, despite your genuine focus in doing something, others don’t see it and disagree?
Chanyeol: Many people often feel this way, when they first meet me and have yet to know me well. Because I’m always laughing, and am especially lively, people tend to think “ah, he’s a playful child who likes to joke aroundâ€. But after they know me better, they’ll understand that I’m someone who thinks a lot, and has a lot of depth. I believe [everyone] can feel it, when they’ve gotten familiar with me.

 

Does your happy personality have to do with your surrounding environment while growing up? Could you share a bit about your growing process as a child?
Chanyeol: I’ve always received a lot of my parents’ love from young, and I’ve always watched them and felt their love since. As such I’ve grown to be very optimistic and enthused myself. 

 

So the feeling you give others really is very bright (like sunshine), and isn’t forced!
Chanyeol: That’s right, of course it’s not forced! (coquettish)

Chanyeol: Yes, I’m always very grateful and thankful to them.

 

What’s a life philosophy you like?
Chanyeol: Enjoy yourself!

 

What’s the biggest frustration for you right now?
Chanyeol: (thinks for a very long time) Nothing really! I don’t often have frustrations.

 

Perhaps you will after you’ve grown up a bit? (laughs)
Chanyeol: Hahaha, indeed, my young age is to blame right now.

 

Please list three of your best features. Your especially long legs?
Chanyeol: Long legs are third, hahaha! First place is probably my smile, and second is probably my passion … third … … I think I could give you ten strong points, haha.

too many people that I want to reply to so I'll just leave a comment without quoting anyone:

 

it's really sad to see how much hate chanyeol gets on OH (and in the international fandom in general)

so much so that I get extremely happy whenever he's shown (even just a little) love 

I have never gone into another exo member's thread because I had a feeling that I would run into some unnecessary comments which would just ruin my mood....and also because I'm too lazy to keep up with any other thread lol...

I am the type of person who can get pretty heated so I try to avoid threads if I sense that some chanyeol hate is about to go down

(so basically I avoid the bashing thread like the plague and will most likely continue to avoid it)

 

I feel the most comfortable in chanyeol's thread (it's nice to be surrounded by people who love him haha)

and I'm paranoid to the point that I think that everyone on onehallyu hates chanyeol unless they explicitly state their like/love for him (and then when they do I get really happy...I have this extreme desire for chanyeol to receive love lol)

Actually, also one of the nicest EXO individual threads I've been into are Luhan, Suho and Xiumin and I must say these threads are peaceful in general. So far, no bashing of other EXO membwrs has happened during my stay in those.

I got to give the props to Xiumin thread because it has one of the most friendliest people like this thread, so yeah. ^^

lol yeah I'm just paranoid/lazy and like to avoid drama (~although in reality I actually love drama shhhh keep it a secret~)

 

another reason why I don't really venture into other exo member threads is because probably I have this weird urge to go back and read through the thread from the beginning (I think it's due to my ocd) 

I literally read through this whole thread when I first joined onehallyu about 2 months ago ;u; (it was time consuming lol)

but at the same time it was sort of fun because this chanyeol thread was actually started around the time I became an exo fan so it was fun reliving things and rediscovering amazing pictures/moments I had forgotten about

I'm a Chanyeol stan

 

So after a bit of thinking I want to join this thread and make new Chanyeol friends I don't have many Chanyeol friends so I'm feeling quite lonely

 

Anyway let me talk a bit about why I came to love him, I'm originally a very strict person with what I like, I rarely give attention to the new idols etc but on summer 2013 a friend of mine suggested the guilty cover to me and I got hooked the moment I heard his adlib in at 0:23 (I literally kept replaying this thing and crying over it for a straight 3 days)

 

Even tho I'm not very welcoming but I do have an eye for talent and I knew right then and there this boy was a gem

After it I went and watched more rap covers of him and I learned he covered Insider (korea's fastest rapper and one of the world's as well) and then I realized that damn this boy has balls to cover him

Not to mention it's a raaare thing to find a rapper who can belt notes and does it as good as him in that low baritone of his

 

From then onward I became a casual fan, I laughed at the stupid gifs I found of him and started whoring his silly self to my followers (which I received 30 unfollows for in a day lol, I stan a YG group so you get why) but my interest in him didn't grow any less

 

Showtime started airing and it's when I officially joined the Chanyeolism full time

 

This man kid princess puppy is the most perfect thing I have come across in a while, very professional and very caring and very selfless, he's a perfectionist who gives his all, would drive himself and his well being up the wall if it meant making the others happy, and I want the whole world to see it

 

Chef Chanyeol, musician Chanyeol, rapper Chanyeol, the family man Chanyeol, mother Chanyeol, everything Chanyeol

 

And I feel very upset over the hostility he gets received with, especially knowing that he's aware of it, agreed he did have a bit of an exaggerated image, but boy had to stand out and secure himself a spot somehow, he toned it down tho... but they keep on hating him if only he moves his fingers or inhales...

Well, their loss I suppose

 

Ok I need to stop now but I have so much feels for him, he's my baby that I want to protect

It makes more sense than Chandara because of their time on roommate

I actually kinda like Nana after roommate I thought she was very cold and kinda this chic stylish girl,

but I didn't realize how bubbly and cute (and kinda odd) she is

But I very much doubt she would date him (even if she did like him)

If i ask this to the exo fandom..some will say its Kai. Others will say Chanyeol..others will say Luhan. And others will say Sehun

the thing is that some think that sehun is the visual because at their first debut showcase exo-k said that their visual is sehun

(also, kai is the face of exo not the visual, but a lot of people get these roles mixed up)

however, some people now think that the "visual" role in exo has changed to chanyeol (and actually in the first 90:2014 episode, chanyeol himself said that he has the role of "visual" so I think that this could very well be the case. I also know that many exo fans in south korea consider chanyeol to be the "visual"

so far sm hasn't actually clarified who the visual is though lol

watching fancams of chanyeol the chungnam sports festival (10/10/14) makes me so sad because he looks so tired and listless   this year has been so hard for all of the boys ;u;

 

 

and idk if a thread has been made on this but instiz just made a countdown till exo's comeback on october 25th......this is so soon and i just can't really see this going well  i'm happy for more exo songs and all but they are so tired and luhan just left and the fans still aren't over everything...I hope everything turns out ok

Somepeople are saying it's delayed till early Nov, but I don't know 

Honestly I think SM should just wait it off till next year, This year has been both physically and emotionally exhausting for the boys, it's better to just have them rest up finish out their Japanese tour and have them comeback next year when their more energetic and high-spirited

 

Also their next comeback is important, It still feels like they haven't made a concrete name for themselves, it needs to be promoted in the same way they promoted Growl, which will be hard for them to do if they're also doing Japanese tour

 

 

I really hope that it's delayed till 2015 at least...

both exo and the fans need time...also, i think that sm should work on keeping the boys happy so that they don't become even more discontent a rest is much needed by exo and i agree with you about exo's next comeback...they need to be able to put their full focus on it
