Do you ever felt glad that you're not South Korean?

This is a bit stupid but i'm really curious, do you ever wonder and glad that you're not South Korean? I mean, just imagine living in the society where the high pressure is everywhere with these ridiculous beauty standards, high educational expectations and everything..I know not every country is not perfect but like..you know? Do you ever feel that way?

edit: I realized that my question was way too specific haha, so better question: Do you ever felt glad that you're not born or live in SK society?

im glad that i dont have to go through their shitty schooling system though

^ Glad I didn't have to deal with that.

I just don't think about it. I'm never happy that I was or was not born into whatever society. Thought never crosses my mind. lol

Korea isn't the only Asian country with high standards. Just about most East and Southeast Asian countries have high standards when it comes to things like education. I mean Japan did rank as one of the top 5 nations with the most suicides. Education is really stressed and emphasized in Asian countries.

I could never imagine myself as anything other than American.

But one of my very close friends is from SK and she's given me a lot of insight into their culture. It's easy for me to say I could never handle that stuff (school, seniority, etc) but that's because I wasn't born into it. Who knows the kind of person I'd be had I be born there instead.

Literally never thought about it~  :imstupid: That's so specific, tbh, to sit down and think of one specific nationality I wouldn't want to be for whatever given reason~

...No? That's such a perplexing and bizarre mindset.

It's not that I'm glad I'm not South Korean. I'm glad and content with who and what I am. No country and no culture is perfect regardless.

No.. why would I? I never thought of being Korean to begin with tbh.

Maybe my question is a bit too specific. What I meant was like.. what if you were a part of SK society. I'm a bit surprised that you didn't think of that since you're into K-pop..I'm sure you have thought about it once in a while?

i definitely have thought of that actually really glad that i don't live and grow in korea. maybe being korean is too specific. living there, and mixing around with the society would definitely not my kind.

though living in my country isn't all that different with the high education standard and ignorant. at least we are not taught to be racist and not against people that have darker skin since singapore is a country that consists of 4 races (that is something i am proud of). and we don't really make a big deal about artists in singapore, honestly. we don't care either.

Honestly no~  :imstupid: Like I like K-Pop and Korean culture, yeah, but sitting down and being like "Oh wow, K-Pop is so cool, I sure wish I was Korean!"

:imstupid:

I mean, maybe I wish I spoke Korean~ That's about it. I never thought about being Korean/living in Korean society~

I like J-Pop, too and also never thought about being Japanese~

Now your rephrasing of the question is better (based on what you described in the OP), but even then, I've never considered that, tbh~   Like you might as well ask if I'm glad I'm not Chinese. Or North Korean~ It's still strange to just be so specific like that to think about, y'know?

Why would I? If I wanted to experience South Korean culture that badly, I'd just live there. My days of wondering what life would be in somebody else's shoes are over, and if I did wonder that, it wouldn't be to re-imagine my life as a South Korean. I'd wonder what life would be like if I had Jedi powers or turned out to be half-Saiyan. Now we're talking.

I can do some light reading and learn about what it's like to be a part of South Korean society...or just talk to a Korean person.

I'm glad I don't live there because of the really high educational standards. I mean it's good to be smart but they pressure you so much that you believe getting into whatever college is a life-or-death situation.

I have some friends from Korea who got into top university courses here (Australia) and are still considered failures in Korea.

Yes. Just that I like the weather since I'm living in tropical country. Moreover, I'm curious about their school systems. Is it really that competitive that there are so many suicide rate (excluding bullying)? There are so many better Universities out there but it seems that the students were brainwashed that Seoul Uni is the best.

yeah, but not in like a, 'haha, eff koreans, those poor sods' kinda way. more like I'm content with some aspects of being an american and I'm grateful I don't have to deal with the pressures they deal with. but at the same time I also envy some aspects of their culture and life, like good cheap healthcare.

That's the truth. I don't know everyone's nationality, but I'm American and although I wouldn't change that for the world, I'm not about to pretend (pardon the French) that our shit doesn't stink as much as any other country's. Our healthcare system is absolutely terrible, racial tensions are still very prevalent, gun violence continues to be out of control and we are one of the unhealthiest first world countries on the globe, not to mention the impending student loan crisis.

Every country has its issues, including the US, but I still love my country. Like i said before, I'm only glad I'm not South Korean in the sense that I'm proud of my ethnicity and glad to be an American.
