Women have done it because they're in truly desperate situations and may not have access to safe abortions. It not only kills the fetus but is EXTREMELY dangerous to the woman. Like women don't just shove coat hangers into their uterus cause they want an abortion there are a shit ton of other factors that contribute to disgusting methods of terminating a pregnancy like that. I have a 16 year old patient try to give herself an abortion because her parents said they would kick her out if she got pregnant. My 16 year old patient was far from insane: she got good grades, was popular at school, and went to church regularly. But to avoid familial abandonment and abuse, she did a desperate thing. It's easy to say these things when you have never been in this situation. If you are a pregnant woman who has been raped, or become pregnant in a society with extreme consequences, what would you find yourself doing? You can't really say unless you've been there. I not sure about where you live but in my country adoption is an extremely complicated and difficult process for everyone involved... Nothing about it is easy. I say this as someone who was adopted. Most children in the system will never be adopted, and their chances are even slimmer if they are of color or disabled, and then those chances grow even slimmer with every year because few people are willing to adopt children that aren't infants.
