Weather Girls Official Thread

The concept art of the album is described by Billboard Japan as follows: "Weather Girls, dressed in marshmallow-fluffy clouds, are brought to Japan by an anticyclone bomb".

Billboard Japan also says that the album is entirely produced by Jeff Miyahara and his team. According to it, the songs "Namida no Ame" (æ¶™ã®é›¨, Rain of Tears) and "Because of You -Hitori no Yoru-" (Because of You -ã²ã¨ã‚Šã®å¤œ-, Because of You -Alone at Night-) are ballads.

Recently, they held their third meteorological class, but I have no time to find any information yet.

And as I found Ameblo of Ms Kunimoto, their lecturer, I just know that Ms Kunimoto is about 3-4 years younger than some of the girls.

Edit. Having skimmed through her blog, I found that:

(1) as for the second class, the lecturer said the studying outcomes were unsatisfactory and the girls need to study more and more;

(2) as for the third class, she said there's a significant improvement;

(3) Ms Kunimoto said she was surprised that she has become their fan;

(4) Ms Kunimoto is also a talented violinist.

Hi there, new member here. I registered for two reasons: First to vote in the poll for my favorite girl Hijon, but second to comment on your post above, because I think there's a potentially interesting untold story behind this.

The first thing to know is that the "interesting girl" that stole Yumi's boyfriend was another Weather Girl. Not from the current music group, but from back when they were just doing dance routines in front of the weather forecast. Her name was Lillian, and her first appearance on Weather Girls seems to coincide with when the news first leaked that she was dating JJ Lin (still thought to be with Yumi, who was not a Weather Girl at the time). Several months later, Lin and Lillian broke up, and Lillian was replaced on Weather Girls by another girl. I don't know if those two events are linked. For a long time Weather Girls had 6 very popular girls, but the 7th spot (Thursday Girl - Lillian's day) frequently changed girls.

Fast forward to the end of 2011, and Lillian is back in the news because JJ Lin is publicizing his new album, which he says was inspired by his emotional break-up with Lillian. Weather Girls decides to bring Lillian back after her long hiatus, making it clear that she's going to be one of the regulars. Weather Girls published this photo below of their regular cast:

That's Lillian at the far right, and fans of the music group Weather Girls will recognize most of the others.

Very quickly after that, however, Lillian was out of the group again. Her replacement? Yumi! Yumi filmed her one and only Weather Girls appearance in February 2012. In March, Weather Girls announced they were ending the series to concentrate on a new project which became the music group, with Yumi as its "leader".

What I'd love to know is whether any of this could be dubbed "Yumi's Revenge." The way this all came together makes it hard to believe it's a coincidence that Yumi showed up right after Lillian resurfaced. And not only that, became "leader" of a group of girls who all had a history together but no history with Yumi. And they immediately transformed into a music group. Maybe Yumi is the one with all the music industry contacts from her years spent with JJ Lin, and that's why she's leader. But that's pure speculation on my part. I know very little about Yumi pre-Weather Girls, and from what little I've seen of her personality, she doesn't seem like the type who'd make a power play like that. I'd be impressed if she did though.

[February 2014 Update: I no longer believe there's any chance that Yumi really had any part in ousting Lillian or transforming the group into a music group, as is doesn't fit with anything we've seen from Yumi or how the group and its management has operated since, but I am leaving my post up in its original form.]

I thought it was an interesting story, regardless. I hope that's not too controversial for a first post.

1. I didn't say that Lillian stole the guy from Yumi. I just said that he found another interest girl, because the news so reported.

And I didn't decide whether his choice was wrong, immoral, correct, appropriate, or else; this depends on each one's judgment.

2. Thanks for the information. I just know that the Taiwanese weather report programs came to an end.

I have been wondering for so long why on YouTube there are no new videos and there is only one Yumi's weather report.

3. I don't know if Yumi has well exercised her leadership. And I don't even know:

(1) what she has actually done and will do as a leader;

(2) what are the actual duties of an idol group leader like her;

(3) how she has been chosen as leader (who knows, maybe just by sortition).

So, I have no opinion as to whether she is capable of making a power play.

4. I withhold my opinion on "Yumi's Revenge" and would again leave this matter to each one's judgment.

But, personally, I think that Yumi is one of the able and adorable girls, and that many of us may concur on this point.

5. Anyway, very glad that you're here. Hope you would join us more often

(everyone whom I asked to join us more often never showed up again ).

Very interesting post about Yumi~ To be honest, I knew none of this situation before Aristitleism mentioned it awhile back.

I really only got into them after they debuted as an idol girl group, but I have watched a lot of their forecasts and all the pre-debut stuff that's been linked here / on the old site.

3. I don't know if Yumi has well exercised her leadership. And I don't even know:

(1) what she has actually done and will do as a leader;

Well, in K-Pop groups, the leader is normally just the oldest member, even if another member might display better leadership qualities.

Do Japanese groups normally do that as well? Weather Girls is the only Japanese idol group I follow, so I don't know if a younger member being the leader is unique or not.

I've been actually addicted to Japanese idols since I was 14.

A Japanese idol group is usually (but not always) led by the oldest member. Leadership belonging to the oldest one is not a strict rule.

Many groups are led by younger members, including AKB48 which is led by Minami Takahashi. Some groups even have no leader.

As far as I know, the ways of choosing leaders are never disclosed and do vary from one group to another.

Leaders of certain Hello! Project groups may be picked up by Producer Tsunku. Another group may obtain its leader by a different means.

However, please note that I'm not an expert on Japanese idol group management.
