Oricon Unveils Their Yearly Sales Rankings For 2015

Today statistics-tracking company Oricon Inc. published its complete end of the year report, which reveals all of the sales data that it collected for the year 2015.  This includes the five top earning acts for the year, as well as the yearly single, album, music DVD, and music Blu-ray charts.

 

This year’s top five selling acts, and their total gross for the year (in yen) are as follows:

 

1. Arashi (Â¥14,328,000,000)
2. AKB48 (Â¥11,291,000,000)
3. Sandaime J Soul Brothers (Â¥6,856,000,000)
4. Kis-My-Ft2 (Â¥5,777,000,000)
5. Kanjani8 (Â¥5,471,000,000)

 

Arashi also managed to top this year’s Album chart with "Japonism", the Music DVD chart with their “ARASHI BLAST in Hawaii†release, as well as the yearly Music Blu-ray chart with their “ARASHI LIVE TOUR 2014 THE DIGITALIAN'â€.  Meanwhile, AKB48 found themselves atop the yearly Singles ranking with “Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai", making it the 6th year in a row that they've had Japan's best selling single.

Because they cross age boundaries and are constantly in the media, but they mainly appeal to older women, who have more money than teenage girls. Most of the top boybands in Japan are around the age of 30.

It's not fixed each year, but it normally runs 52 weeks from mid-December one year until early December the next.  This year was unusual because it was 53 weeks rather than 52, so it ran a little later than normal.

The general public likes them. They're known for other things than their music though. But they're idols so meh.

No, there's definitely ageism with girls + GGs in Japan is about freshness and youth. Girls start out to have fun in their youth and move on when they're older to do other things ie graduation system

I do think the older the girl, depend on her image, the more she can appeal to people than some 14 yrs old. Alot of top members in 48G are in their 20s, and Kojima at 27 is one of the most popular with girls/guys...but there have never been any member that stayed in the group till they're 30s, or i don't think there are anyway.
