Why do so many people want someone that they can have an intelligent conversation with?

Why do people question other people's needs?

 

Is it because they feel they are not intelligent enough to hold such discussions?

I think they mean deeper than the everyday, "hey bitch how was the game?!" convo.

Another interpretation is a conversation on a topic which employs more higher-order or critical thinking.

 

Or a debate where people aren't throwing their informal fallacies everywhere.

When they say "intelligent", they mean what they consider to be intelligent. Not what's objectively intelligent.

they really mean civil conversations without personal attacks thrown but really there are no good points brought up in a dull and weak conversation.

It's nice to have someone to have an intelligent convo with but, it's even better to have someone you feel comfortable having a deep convo with.

i've always taken it to mean that the topic of conversation can be something more abstract and meaningful then banal chatter

Personally when I think of "intelligent conversation", I see an exchange of thoughts and ideas, not so much a discussion on politics or physics or what have you, and especially not a frivolous discussion in which both parties only agree. Conversations in which I and the other person may not see eye to eye, but which enable us to learn about one another's view points for the sake of simply understanding, that is what I envision an intelligent conversation to be.

 

It happens so often to me that I'll try to start up said "intelligent conversation", and people won't get what my angle is so they'll take it as me trying to tell them they're wrong. It may just be that I don't make my intentions clear enough, even though I'm careful, but when I speak to someone cordially the least I expect is the same back. Sadly I've learned my lesson that the internet is not the best place to try to have any sort of meaningful conversation, especially not with other kpop fans.

it's harder to find the 2nd type, so maybe that's why

They just want people that have the same thought pattern that they can agree with on a subject.
