I tried calling Starship because I know they have one receptionist that speaks decent English but the one that picked up wasn't the one I was looking for. My friend is going to call them later today for me and tell them to hold on to it for Mei Qi and give it to her when she returns.

sound like a good plan. i'm surprised they only have one english speaking receptionist because starship feel like a pretty international oriented company.

pretty sure she will get it later, the only missed opportunity is she can't eat the cake. i imagine how happy she will feel to receive gifts from fans all over the world; it's her first bday after debut so it must be quite special for her.

belated happy birthday meng mei qi!!! big thank to mamichan and jenny for the updates. look like she had a cracking birthday party with chengxiao and xuanyi, those are a lot of sweets for 3 girls. that cake looks adorable (though jenny's friend's cake is a bit better :D) i guess she's a tiger in chinese zodiac hence the little tiger there?

 

i love that livestream video so much despite not understanding a word. they seem a lot more talkative, lively and upbeat than normal, must be due to speaking in their mother tongue. i'm so used to hearing chengxiao's cute, slow and awkward korean, it's funny to see she speaks chinese like spitting fire here. meiqi's voice sounds even more mature and deeper in chinese than korean; weird cause i thought her voice would be higher pitch due to chinese being a tonal language.

 

i just wish they filmed the video in horizontal mode so that i can see all 3 of them at any time. i have an irrational hatred for vertical videos.

omfg it sets in 1975!!!! what a surprise, i thought it'd be a modern drama movie. i wonder if the story will only focus on her struggle and romance or it will fuse a bit of the historical context into the story (it was at the end of the cultural revolution). her character, by the description, sounds quite close to her personality in real life so i'm confident she can pull it off.

needless to say i was quite taken aback at this news, i missed it when i logged in this site two days ago. like, i would never expect the chinese line would go into acting first, let alone this soon in their career. and i didn't think mei qi would be the first to get a lead role either; she strikes me as the one more into music career since she has both singing and dancing skills and the other two have more actress vibe to them. that said, stars align, our girl gets a lead role and finally says good bye to the dungeon, woohoo!! it's such a fabulous birthday present starship/yuehua gave her. the next few months will be exciting time, especially with the rumour of another wjsn comeback. 

 

should i mention that i'm excited it's a movie and not a drama or a web series? of course, a movie doesn't guarantee higher quality; it's just a low budget indie project, and even secondary roles in a drama might help them more in terms of popularity and exposure, regardless i'm perfectly content with this choice (and even feel grateful for it). it is a great chance for the girls to nurture their acting skill and we as fans don't have to force ourselves to follow some cringy, dragging low quality dramas just to see our beloved idols in action (or watching their cuts without understanding much about the plot). don't get me wrong, there are a lot of quality chinese dramas out there, but the ones that korean idols often got signed on are more often than not plagued by bad plots, poor direction and cringe-induced acting of the overall cast. an indie movie is a perfectly self-contained little project where the girls have to give their best for a 1h30 running time. i hope by the time the movie is released, we will have more translators in wjsn fandom so that everyone can watch the movie with eng subs. but i know i will watch it otherwise, subs or not.

oh another funny detail

 

when i read the tweet about the casting, i skipped to the end and misread yixuan as xuanyi and i thought both girls were cast as leads in a romance movie and i was like

 

 

then

 

 

cause i thought they are going to serve us 

 

 

some steaming indie lesbian drama.  

 

 

only after a minute of excitement and wild imagination did i realize it was written 'yixuan' and it's a guy name. 

 

 

sorry uniq fans, i have no idea there's a male idol named yixuan in kpop, let alone him being labelmates with the girls. he's kinda cute though. can't wait to see how their chemistry develops.
