College Dilemma

Impregnated by Eunwoo

Need your advice ladies and gents. My cousin got accepted in two universities here.

University A - Very prestigious University, High tuition

University B - Not so prestigious; strong point is business related course; my cousin was offered full scholarship(with condition)

Her mother wants her to go to University A because her mother is after with the connections she can get that could help her in applying for a job when she graduate plus bragging rights.

On the other hand, her father wants her to go to University B since she will get full scholarship and that it could save them a lot of money because of it.

If you were in my cousin's shoes, which one will you choose? I was asked about this one awhile back but it is pretty much a tough choice.

I'd say the options are equal.

1. What college you go to, and its reputation, REALLY do matter (depending on your location - but I'm presuming this is for America). Furthermore, they are prestigious for a reason - usually their courses are very high quality, and thus, they churn out better graduates/offer a better education.

2. Business-related college, scholarships to pay tuition... relieves financial stresses of the student and families.

If the mother is willing to go with option A, I don't see why not. Obviously they are prepared for the financials that come along with it.

You get almost the same learning in every school. The only difference is that instead of having a class with people less intelligent than you , you are now learning with people that are as smart/smarter than you. Prestigious school is best to build connections , connections can get you so far in life. LPT: You don't have to be smart to succeed , you just need smart friends.

I like your input. But which one will you choose?

B especially if you are in the US. Being over 150k in debt (depending on the family contribution) is NOT the way to go.It would help if you listed the unis though so the "prestige" could be compared.

The connections you make is well worth the 150k , 150k is pennies compare to what you will be making in the future with the connects.

I think it depends on what career they are following. But for most, it's good to have a more prestigious school.

You're in America? I know the tuition fees are ridiculously high but...uni a.

Yea colleges here are like 60k a year for the big ones lol. Argh can't wait for that debt ><

I had this dilemma and chose A because you may save money in the in the short run, but connections and the alumni network are for life

Also, it seems like your cousin's family is not that strapped for money? If they were, most (if not all) of the top tier schools in the states (presuming this is the U.S.) have really substantially need based financial aid that could cover most if not all of the university costs.
