[A MUST WATCH ESPECIALLY FOR US, INT'L FANS] K-Pop in Korea vs. The West (other countries)

Recommended Posts

*Title does not really include "other countries", but the prejudice towards K-pop is just as the same as in the west, so...

Shoutout to homeboy kpopsteve, fellow starlight, who formulated this interview session with BAPMokja and Haeppy.

For those who ain't familiar,

- These two have been in Korea for quite a long time as a teacher. (as what they've said)

- They've worked with several artists. (as what they've said)

- BAPMokja starred in AOA's Heart Attack.

Points of discussion:

0:00 - 0:55 - small introduction and background sharing

0:56 - 3:53 How popular is K-pop in Korea?

3:54 - 6:05 - How is Western Pop viewed in Korea?

6:06 - 9:23 - Are relationship scandals that big of a deal in Korea?

9:24 - 11:20 - Sasaengs

11:24 - 13:57 - K-Pop fan in west (other countries)

13:58 - 15:17 - Closing remark

*but I dare you to watch 'em whole*

Eventhough some are already a known-fact to us, still, it's a good watch.

Either way, up to y'all if going to take the validity purely or with grain of salt.

All I know for the fact, while I was watching it, I sat elegantly and queenly.

Nice vid, I already knew about most of the stuff since I've been into kpop for a few years now but great for newer fans. It's funny how most kpop fans see western music as trash when it's pretty much the same thing in Korea. Guess the language barrier really helps lmao like that Coffee shop example they gave haha

These video kind of confirm somethings I knew about kpop but share some new info.

KPop is a niche market, even in Korea: I renember "Eat your kimchi"

and stated the same-played in public places but barely loved-. So, acording to this, is just a niche thing.

The main public of KPop are school people: I have read that kpop is mostly popular between teenager and kids and it seems is right, according to the video.

Adults barely care about kpop:I already knew this but it kind of surprise me, since, here, there are post of proving how many digital music plattaforms users are between their 20-30. But is interesting the contrast of experience between the interviewers about that.

KPop and everything related to it is low class in Korea: I kind of knew about this, thanks to comments translators websites...besides their fame, but the "No matter how good of a singer you are, if you are in kpop they automatically hate you" it, technically, state how kpop is taken there.

Western Pop is the kpop of Korea:This remind of those comments that shared how koreans were shocked when people from overseas told them that Justin Bieber is seen as a joke in the west and not as the respected musician they tought he was.

There are more things i will point out later.

Thanks for sharing.

Aside from their gross comments, what they're saying is true, especially about how it's played everywhere and Korea's lack of mood music for coffee shops and restaurants orz

I think there's definitely a mix though of ppl in their 20's who like kpop, who are mildly interested, and who hate it bc they're music hipsters lol. I think most just fall into the mildly interested "I love this song but I don't really /follow/ the group" category is all, just like most ppl in America and who they hear on the radio. What we see of netizens are the actual fans in their teens/20's, but they usually keep it on the dl unless they're at an event. those who show off their obsession are the elementary/middle school kids (my kids carry around photocards, put stickers on their books, doodle names in their notebooks, learn the dances....it never ends haha)

i have hear most of those ideas already from a korean friend (she's in her 20's too) ....and she likes one direction in the same way i like shinee lol

after all kpop is pop, nothing more nothing less

Western Pop is the kpop of Korea:This remind of those comments that shared how koreans were shocked when people from overseas told them that Justin Bieber is seen as a joke in the west and not as the respected musician they tought he was.

THIS

rumors don't reach them either, before i told her my friend never knew the violence story between chris brown and rihanna or other silly stories like taylor swift dating that one direction guy ...apparently some rumors never get translated to korean (sometimes i wonder how many good rumors we intfans have lost because nobody translate them to english)

Those guys are idiots and sexists.

The blonde one don't hesitate to make money over Korea but shit on Koreans when they try to get accepted by western public.

By the way I don't know the one on the left. The guy in the middle and the one in the right are dumbs.

We're not sexist - thank you very much.

Clearly you are upset that I didn't like CL - Hello Bitches and 'twerking'

They are my opinions. Just because you disagree doesn't make me an idiot or a "dumb"

Gross comments?
