Why do people say 'everyone is beautiful'?

'... inside and out'

Because obviously, everyone is not physically attractive to any given person. But that's fine. It's not like you're somehow less of a person just because you're ugly. Beauty is just one of the many redeeming traits a person could have. I feel like this kind of behavior, even though it has good intentions, just promotes physical beauty as all a person is good for. Instead, it would probably be more productive to campaign about physical beauty not being the most important thing in the world.

I don't see people going around saying 'everyone is intelligent' 'everyone is athletic' 'everyone is funny' and so on. So why do people do it so much with beauty?

I think it says a lot about you if you can't see the beauty in everyone imo

I'm not going to pretend I'm physically attracted to everyone, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate them. Most of the people I've cared most about in my life, I didn't think were particularly good looking.

Whenever someone says "everyone is beautiful," I automatically assume they're either naive or lying. Some people are not beautiful, inside nor outside.

I suppose it's because we subconsciously equate beauty with worth. We see physical appearance before anything else.

You just made me remember about a video that I watched not long ago, about beauty standards. The guy was talking about attractiveness by a scientific point of view and explaining how just a really small percentage of people on this world are considered completely unattractive (and usually because of a deformity and these things). At around 5:50 there's a graphic of attractiveness, anyone who's in the colored part can be considered attractive by other person, the really unattractive people are on the grey sides.
, it's not in english tho, it's portuguese. There's a bunch of links in the description of the sources he used, so you can check, many are in english.

TL;DR: Just a small share of people are COMPLETELY unattractive, so saying "everyone is beautiful" isn't exactly a lie. Most are, maybe not for you, but for someome they will be attractive somehow.

And telling someone that they aren't beautiful and never will be is too much, honestly. Why should we do that? How that would help people who struggle because others mock their looks? Showing them that they can still be considered attractive and that they should embrace their "flaws" and be confident is much better and actually helpful.

edit: damn, got "unattractive" wrong, sorry.

you are assuming that everyone means "conventional physical attractiveness" as beauty. to me beauty is much more complex, a story can be beautiful, a song can be beautiful, an experience can be beautiful. it's the general feeling that someone gives you, the type of energy they project, their attitude, their confidence, that's what makes someone beautiful and no i don't think everyone is beautiful, someone who projects negativity and makes people feel uncomfortable around them with their negative energy is not beautiful.

when i tell somone they are beautiful i don't mean it as in "you are conventionally aesthetically pleasing to the eye"

you are saying that it bothers you when people tell someone that you consider unattractive that they are beautiful, i'm saying that you are assuming that the person meant it as "you are pleasing to the eye" when the person can and probably means it in a much deeper way than that. and tbh i don't understand why it is a problem wanting to make people feel confident about who they are instead of loathing themselves because the world insists on telling them that they are ugly and undesirable.

and as user above said, anyone can be attractive to someone else, i often see girls dropping their panties in mass over boyband members that look physically unattractive to me, i don't automatically assume that they are lying, i guess they are just into different stuff than me

edit: if it's easy to accept that people can have different taste in the food they like, the music they listen to, the animals they find cute, the clothing style that they like, why is that hard to believe that people can feel physical attraction to totally different looking people?

We are bombarded contastantly by the media we consume as entertaiment about how beauty is the key to anything: happiness, money , success, richness, etc; in reality beauty is a side effect of ur given genes, and we all knew that stunning person that after 30 mins of talking you realize you want to run from him/her and never cross paths again; anyone who has lived enough will tell you it's overrated as fck  :hoplz:
