So this is the final article about the situation and with that, the final thread.

K-pop group Oh My Girl had wrong visa, says US Customs and Border Protection

"The official, with the US Customs and Border Protection, asked not to be named because he wasn't allowed to talk about the issue with the media.

However, he said the girl band lied to customs officials saying they were travelling as tourists.

Officials then denied them entry because they didn't have the right performance paperwork.

The group was trying to enter the US under the visa waiver program, which allows South Korean travellers into the country for up to 90 days without a visa.

We were doing what we do every day," the official told the Los Angeles Times. "We send people back all the time."

Lol they wanted to shift the blame.... By calling themselves mistaken as prostitutes because it wouldn't be their fault. smh

It seemed more like they were trying to sensationalize the story than trying to shift the blame.

So if I'm not mistaken, apparently it's only legal to do unpaid work on a visa waiver if it's something that would normally be unpaid. In this instance I'm assuming the other acts in the show were paid, so it would be illegal for OMG to perform even if they agreed to do it for free. Their management really should've looked into this better before wasting everybody's time tbh.

The government official claims the group made up their story about being accused of sex workers and the real issue was that their luggage contained performing kit and they were clearly in the United States to work.

I'm pretty sure it was the company that made up the story of how OMG were accused of being sex workers, not the group themselves  :wth:

I like the other articles on this that said that officials believe that the girls were coached by their management to say that they were there as tourists.
