"All I Want for Christmas Is You" Is No Longer the Most-Played Holiday Song

If you're anything like me, the moment Thanksgiving is over is the moment you shift full-force into holiday music mode and stay that way through December 25. Inevitably, this around-the-clock approach to Christmas tunes means options are exhausted quickly and overplayed to the point of annoyance. There's only so many times you can hear "Santa Baby" or "Feliz Navidad" before you want to gouge your ears with candy canes to make it stop. That said, there is one song I can listen to on repeat, year after year, without ever growing sick of it, and that's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey.

For those of you with me on Team Mariah who totally relate to the above, I have some bad news. To those of you who hate this holiday hit and probably also hate people like me who are obsessed with it: 1. Bah humbug to you, too. 2. Consider this your Christmas miracle.

Paste magazine reports "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which has topped the holiday music charts every year since its initial release in 1994, has been dethroned. (*Sob*) According to PlayNetwork, a company that provides "branded entertainment media experiences in retail and beyond," (i.e. they curate the music stores play while you shop), Mariah Carey's iconic track has dropped to 2nd place this season, bringing an end to its 20-year reign. Taking over the top rank for 2015 is The Shin's cover of Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime."

So... it has nothing to do with actual radio spins or digital downloads? Seems like The Shin's cover is still irrelevant to me...
