There may be younger idols out there like another user said, but there are restrictions as to what they can do and how long they can work in a day. Younger idols also cannot be doing performances after a certain hour so it makes it hard to manage performances. And they also cannot work before a certain hour so prerecording for music shows becomes extremely hard. But then again, it's all just speculation as to why she didn't join earlier. She wasn't the only one supposed to join RV at the time too, another trainee named Koeun was going to be RV's 6th member, but SM changed plans and Koeun is still a trainee and probably the leader of the upcoming girl group. I have a gut feeling that Yeri was added to RV so that SM wouldn't have two 4-membered girl groups (since Sulli's future with f(x) was still unclear at the time). Who knows exactly why Yeri was added, what I said is what I've read. but it's fake, someone ramdonly came up with that because of that one Korean law and OT5 stans started spreading it like crazy, the truth here is, that she wasn't supossed to debut in Red Velvet in the first place and we will never know why SM came up with that ramdon af addition, knowing Red Velvet was very balanced talent-wise before Yeri joined. it could be because they knew beforehand that Sulli was leaving F(x) and SM didn't wanted two 4 member groups, it could be because dances look better in a 5-people formation, it could be because Joy was reaching 18 and she didn't wanted to stick with the cute maknae image and be sexy, it could be to create some buzz because everybody hated RV last year, there could be many reasons, but Yeri being too young is not one of them. Yeri and other girls were teased in Happiness to be apart of a larger girl group, right?
