æµå…‰è½¬çœ¼åŒ–è¶

lÇœ le bÄ jiÄo
hóng le yīng táo
liú guÄng zhuÇŽn yÇŽn huà dié
pÄo rén yú hÇŽi dÇŽo

The bananas[2] have greened.
The cherries have reddened.
The flowing time turns into butterflies in a blink of the eye,
Abandoning a person on an island in the sea.

tuì le àn cháo
lí sàn de hòu niǎo a
kě hái jì dé nián shào de gē yáo

The undercurrent has ebbed.
Oh, the scattered migratory birds,
Do [you] remember the songs of youth?

å“ä¸å®Œç´¢æ€§ç¬‘

zuì le xuÄn xiÄo
kū bù wán suǒ xìng xiào
rén hèn wÇ’ chÄ« er hé zú dào zÄi

The clamor has become drunk.
Since cannot ever finish crying it all out, then might as well laugh.
People hate me [for being] a fool; what's there that's worth remarking about?

fÄ“ng yuè guÄn biÄn zhào
shì wǒ bù kěn míng liǎo
wÇ’ yÇ bái tóu ér nÇ
zài hé chù dào lǎo

The wind [passes by] and the moon shines upon the stations on the border.
It is me who was unwilling to understand clearly.
I already have a head of white hair whereas you
Are growing old where?

chÄ« rén yÄ« mèng héng guò wàn lÇ huáng shÄ / wú qiÄn guà
chÄ« rén yÄ« shì liú làng qù nà wàng chuÄn
wÇ’ yÄ« jiào xÇng zhuÇŽn
nÇ yÄ« dìng jiù zài wÇ’ zuÇ’ àn
qiÄn zhe shÇ’u / dÄ›ng yÄ« shù táo huÄ

A fool traverses ten thousand li of yellow sand with one dream, having no worries or attachments.
A fool roams for a lifetime to go to that River of Forgetfulness.
Once I wake up,
You'll surely be on my left shore,
Holding hands, waiting for a treeful of peach blossoms.

生了æžæ¡
çäº†çƒŸèб

shÄ“ng le zhÄ« yÄ
miè le yÄn huÄ
qiÄng dí yÄ« qÇ” chuÄ« bà
lù guò le shéi jiÄ

The twigs have grown.
The fireworks have been extinguished.
After finishing playing a song on the Qiang flute[3],
Whose home have passed by?

sàn le yÄn xiá
yÇ” shuÇ zhÅng yú luò xià
kÄ› hái jì dé dàng nián de làng huÄ

The mist and clouds of twilight have dissipated.
The rainwater has finally descended.
Do [you] still remember the spray back in that year?

yÄ« qÇ” zhÄo zhÄ
chàng de hǎo huài yě bà
rén hèn wǒ chī er biàn hèn ba

A song of disorderly twitter—
Never mind whether it is sung well or poorly.
If people hate me [for being] a fool, then let them hate.

xÄ«ng yè chén tiÄn yá
shì wǒ bù kěn liú xià
wÇ’ shÄ“ng huá fà ér nÇ
yǒng yuǎn zhèng nián huá

The starlit night sinks to the edge of the Earth.
It is me who was unwilling to stay.
I grow white hair whereas you
Forever remain at the prime of your years.

chÄ« rén yÄ« mèng héng guò wàn lÇ huáng shÄ / wú qiÄn guà
chÄ« rén yÄ« shì liú làng qù nà wàng chuÄn
wÇ’ yÄ« jiào xÇng zhuÇŽn / nÇ yÄ«dìng jiù zài
bÇ Ã n qÄ« yÄ« hú chá / dÄ›ng yÄ« shù táo huÄ

A fool traverses ten thousand li of yellow sand with one dream, having no worries or attachments.
A fool roams for a lifetime to go to that River of Forgetfulness.
Once I wake up, you'll surely be
On the other shore steeping a pot of tea, waiting for a treeful of peach blossoms.

chÄ« rén yÄ« mèng zhuÇŽn guò sÄn qiÄn fó tÇŽ / cÄn bù huà
chÄ« rén yÄ« lù fàn zhÅu qù nà gù xiÄng
wÇ’ yÄ« jiào xÇng zhuÇŽn / nÇ yÄ« dìng jiù zài
hé pàn zuò yÄ« fú huà / dÄ›ng zhe wÇ’ dÇ dá

A fool moves through three thousand pagodas with one dream, unable to comprehend.
A fool sails a boat to go to that hometown.
Once I wake up, you'll surely be
Painting by the riverside, waiting for me to arrive.

æˆ‘çœ‹è§ é‚£ä¸€æ ‘æ¡ƒèŠ±

zài bÇ Ã n qiÄn zhe shÇ’u / dÄ›ng yÄ« shù táo huÄ
wÇ’ kàn jiàn / nà yÄ« shù táo huÄ

On the other shore, [we] hold hands and wait for a treeful of peach blossoms.
I see that treeful of peach blossoms.

T/N:

[1] å¿˜å· (lit. forget river) is the river that, in Chinese mythology, flows across the final entrance to the netherworld. After death, people pass through the Gate of Hell, walk along the Road of Yellow Spring (the water source, not the season), and cross the River of Forgetfulness to finally enter the netherworld. Before they can cross the river by the means of a bridge, the dead asked to drink a soup presented to them by Matron Meng. Doing so makes them forget everything in their previous life.

Unlike Lethe, you don't drink the water of this river to forget!

[2] 芭蕉 refers in particular to Musa basjoo which, despite its common name of "Japanese banana", actually originated in southern China.

[3] 羌笛 is an ancient single reed instrument of the Qiang people that consists of two vertical pipes each with previously five, nowadays six, finger holes.

Oh, I realized I forgot something, that little blurb you asked for:

许多年åŽï¼Œä»–带ç€ç¾Œç¬›ï¼Œ

一路å¹ç€å¥¹æœ€çˆ±çš„曲åï¼Œ

她æ²ä¸€å£¶èŒ¶ï¼Œæ˜Žçœ¸å·§ç›¼ã€‚

竟如åˆè§ã€‚

Many years later, carrying the Qiang flute,

Playing her favorite song along the way,

He finally arrives in her hometown from lands north of the Gobi Desert.

By the road on the opposite shore of the River of Forgetfulness, under the branches of the peach grove that stretches for ten li,

She is steeping a pot of tea, gazing out with beautiful bright eyes.

Unexpectedly, it is like when they first laid eyes on each other.
