a very cool video. Didn't know what was going on with the story though since i didn't play 13-2 yet.

Oh i was going to borrow it but then my brother offered to let me borrow Ni no Kuni so i started that instead. Just got started but it's kind of boring so far and the battle system isn't that much fun...But as a huge ghibli fan the art is fantastic. Almost all jrpgs have terrible looking 2d cutscenes so this is easily the best. Joe Hisaishi is amazing as always also.

I forgot has the theme songs for LR been announced/released yet?

the battle system kind of builds as you go on a bit, the story is still kind of slow progressing for me partly because I rarely have time to play, I went back to playing 13-2, so that I can finish before continuing Ni No Kuni

the semi-real time thing is a little annoying. Like if i am able to run around freely i want to be able to hit and dodge. It's annoying to run away and try to time my attacks only to still get hit. Though i just noticed that i can cancel my commands so i'm going to play around with that next time i turn it on.

I still haven't completed 13 or 13-2 because the final bosses are a bitch D:

Maybe this weekend or something...gotta finish before LR and I don't have very much free time on my hands

I'm a newbie to the FF franchise in general, and longtime fans of the series seem to think it's declining...can anybody tell me why this is? I thought the 13 games were pretty good (even though 13-2's storyline is a little messy). Also, can anyone recommend which one I should play next? I have a ps3 system. (I'm pretty sure most FF games aren't compatible with that...)

It's because of the rise of complainers and haters this gen and also i've said multiple times that the jrpg fanbase is probably the worse gaming fanbase.

13 has it's problems but i had a really good time with it and thought it was fun. There are legitimate complains like the linearity, some of the characters, and the lack of side stuff to do but after reading a lot of the hate posts on gamefaqs most of the hate aren't valid complaints. People say the voice acting sucks, no it does not. It's actually pretty good compared to the majority of other jrpg games, minus Vanille. People say it's way too easy, again i think this is wrong. FF as a whole is an easy rpg series and 7 being the easiest rpg i've ever played (superbosses with one strategy don't count). 13 being still easy but moderate difficulty for an FF game.

It feels to be a case of bandwagon hate and people comparing it to other FF games instead of on it's own. I think if it was not an FF game people would like it more. Not a perfect game, but not as terrible as people make it out to be.

__

For what game to play next actually you can play almost all the FF games on a ps3 because the majority of them can be bought on the psn in the psone classic section. I've bought them all actually and have: FF Origins (1 and 2), 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Then 10 and 10-2 HD collection is going to be released soon. So really all that's missing on the ps3 is 3, 4, and 12.

My favorite is 6 but people complain about it being a bad port and some long loading times. I haven't played this version because i played it on the gba so i can't comment on that. 7 and 9 are also good places to go next. Or 10 if you can wait until that comes out.

Oh, I see. Has the fandom compared other FF titles to each other before? This seems to be the most hated game of the franchise so far, and I really can't believe it. Like you said, it was pretty enjoyable even with its flaws. I was shocked by the feedback.

Ah, I always forget about the psn! So exciting :D I'll try 7. That's the most famous one, right? When I beat Kingdom Hearts Final Mix I'll get that next :lub: Thanks!

The worse part is there's no break between Barthandelus and Orphan...

I'm sure I could beat 13-2's boss if I gave it another chance, but I was so close to beating it once and then it KO'd me with one of those game-breaking moves and I'm still too angry to play it :>_>:

Do you have any strategy tips? What paradigms did you use? If you can remember them ^_^;

yes 7 is the most popular and most overrated  :)

Good game but overblown because it's a lot of people's first rpg. People compare FF games all the time.

I thought the final boss in 13 was pretty easy, like disappointingly easy actually.

my party was the same as Midnights: Fang(leader), Light, Hope

best paradigms to use in the game not just against this boss (and i would assume this to be the same in 13-2):

rav, rav, rav

com, com, rav

sen, sen , sen

sen, med, med

sab, sab, syn

sab, syn, syn

i don't remember how many slots you get but i also used (com, rav, med) a lot. Fang has the best ultimate attack that's why she HAS to be the leader. I wouldn't waste much time buffing/debuffing that much in one of the forms of the boss though because he does a move that clears them. So maybe just use sab, sab, syn and get one or two rounds off for Hope to get Haste on everybody and hopefully a few debuffs on the boss.

Sen, Sen, Sen is a must for a lot of boss fights, especially the adamanturtoises in post game. Just switch to that whenever you see the enemy about to cast a strong move, then switch to sen, med, med to quickly heal, then back to attacking. I really don't remember it being difficult honestly.

wow...that look does not suit her at all....

soooooooooooo I popped in FF 13-2 again to try and finish it and I was happily killing some of the bosses in the Archylte Steppe for the sidequests and had no trouble until that Long Gui one.  It's pissing me off so damn much! I want to launch the controller at my screen.  And I'm kind of OCD about completing things before moving on to the next challenge so I'm stuck...

why are you having trouble? If you're a completionist then you should have fought plenty of adamantortoises in FF13 and a Long Gui for the trophy also. Unless they require a different strategy...

In 13 Sazh spamming Daze while the other two attacked destroyed all of them.

I don't think I leveled my saboteur enough, and spent too many points on other roles.  by the time I stagger a leg it hits me with some crazy ultima attack and I have to heal, by then stagger is almost over.

You're making me want to play it but i still have NnK that i haven't booted up in almost a week...

Sab level shouldn't matter much since it's only the abilities that matter for it right? Unless there was something that boosts the chance for the status effect to stick or the duration, i don't remember.

Though some times the game just fucks you and they do Ultima or whatever their special cheap move is and you just have to retry.

lol if you take too long it casts doom, which is an even more piss off...maybe i'm not using the right strategy...or maybe not playing for so long makes me suck at it XP

i hate doom in games. I get so scared.

no shame in looking up youtube videos. I do it all the time if i get stuck for too long, especially hard puzzles. Stupid puzzles.

If i need to cheat to save the world, then cheat i will.

Unfortunately I've never played tactics. From what I've seen, isn't it similar to Fire Emblem?

it's supposed to be one of the best tactics game ever made along with Tactics Ogre (the team that developed this followed it up by making FF Tactics). I don't like tactics games and haven't played either of those or a Fire Emblem though...

FF XII LR looks mildly interesting to me. I have played XIII but gave up half way through. SE has made too many game design decisions I don't like. The story is not very engaging either. Not even thought about touching XIII-2.

How confused with the story would I potentially be when I pick LR up without having finished the prior games?

AyaBrea_zps9b6b0289.png

I would like this one. :la:

i think i read that the game is going to give a little summary of the story so far or something like that. Not sure though, you should double check me on that.

Can anyone who's played Lightning Returns tell me what they thought of it? I'm really having mixed feelings about whether or not I should get it. (If it helps, I liked both games in the trilogy so far, XIII for story and XIII-2 for gameplay.)

Here's jbocas' reply when i asked how the game was

FF X, X-2 and XII are my favorite.. I don't get why people hate XII so much

The story line is awesome

Game play is phenomenal

I am so pressed they will never make a HD remaster version of this

they didn't say there never would be an HD version. They even said it's a possibility.

I liked 12 a lot. If only Ashe or Basch was the protagonist though...

YES

I hope they do.. I have been waiting since forever  :horror:

I have to say 12 is probably the one I would go and play from the start I love everything about it.

My PS2 broke so I can't play it anymore

12 is super long though. You can beat most FF in like 40-50 hours if you just play through the story. But it took me 70+ hours to beat 12 and i did very little extra things. I only did enough missions/marks to get the Bubble spell, which is only 10 or so.

I don't think i would ever replay it, or at least not all the way through because of its length.

:omg:  70hrs straight?

A month but I did everything little thing..

Call me a maniac I have replayed it a dozen times and I never get tired of it.

I think that is one of the reasons why people don't like it, its a lengthy game

At least battle system was enjoyable and there was much more freedom of movement

well not straight of course. It was over the course of maybe 2 months.

I liked the battle system. I wish Ni no Kuni was more like it. Maybe i would actually like NnK then.

Am i the only one who liked the FFXIII battle system?

It's very strategic. Do a wrong action or paradigm shift it can be very fatal. People whom are saying that "the game is playing itself" must have sucked at learning the battle system.

i really liked it and enjoyed the game also.

I've tried defending the game but there's not much i can do if they don't want to listen. If they have problems with the story then fine but I liked the battle system.

I've read a lot of comments saying the game is so easy and you can just mash X. Like no. You cannot beat the game without actively changing paradigms. I think the battle system is way more involved than the older ATB system in the earlier games (now those games you can just mash X and heal occasionally). And 7 is the easiest FF game by far. I actually think 13 is hard by FF standards. Most FF are easy games if you don't include secret/super bosses.

edit: btw i'm not saying 13 is hard. Just hard for an FF game. Though there are some annoying/difficult parts.

7 is the easiest?

Hmm.

Out of the ones i've played yes. I have have no problem saying that. I've played 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 7 is the easiest one. Though i never beat 4 or 10. But 4's difficulty was normal i'd say and i don't remember 10 enough.

Meh, you need to paradigm shift but that's pretty much all you need to do. It just seems like a severely cut-down version of X-2's battle system (imo the best one) which had class switching but didn't make all of the traditional elements redundant.

i didn't mean to make it sound like 13's battle system is super complex or anything like that, because it's not. It's actually really simple once you figure it out. But i still think it's undeservedly bashed and hated on.

yea my friend told me X-2's battle system was great and the best part of the game. I never played it though. Whenever i feel like buying the HD collection i guess.

Any tips on farming trapezohedrons?

I've been using the death trick on the adamantoises/tortoise but so far, no traps yet.

Been farming for like 3 days but I only get Platinum Ingots, but also recently, even with the catalog accessory, even they won't drop ingots

depends on your level and how strong your characters are. And also don't worry about ingots. If you're going for all the trophies/achievements you'll get all the traps before you have all the ingots you need. The only thing i can say is to keep doing it. It's going to take a looooong time. I'm not sure but i read that you get better drop rates if you only use one of those accessories instead of both at the same time. So if you want the rare drop only equip that one.

Also if you're going for the trophies/achievements you should farm most of this stuff before you finish that one series of missions that are connected. It changes the turtles into the stronger blue ones. There'll only be one regular one left somewhere else and it'll make farming slower.

There's like 3 ways to do it.. At first death trick is your best option because you're low level and you can't fight them straight up. Just do that until you think you're strong enough because it's too luck based.

Then what you should try next is using a summon. Summoning will instantly take out the legs and you can attack. Get like 2 debuffers and one buffer. Let that go until you get a good amount of debuffs on it. switch to triple Ravengers to finish staggering it (it should be close or already staggered from the debuffs). Then depending on your party go triple Commando or two Commandos and 1 Ravenger. This should kill it. If not you're gonna have to fight. Basically repeat the process on each leg until it falls and then do it again on his main body to finish it off.

The third way. It'll take like 30 seconds to a minute to take one down and it's the way you keep doing it until you get everything you need. The main thing is using Daze. I actually don't remember this strategy all that well. So i could be wrong on some stuff. Higher HP helps. Basically do the same strategy of having 2 debuffers and 1 buffer. Switch to triple Sentinel immediately if you see it lift up a leg because it's going to stomp. Switch back and continue. Switching to Sen and having enough HP should be enough to keep you alive until it gets staggered. When it's staggered or close switch to double Ravengers and 1 debuffer that has Daze. Daze paralyzes the enemy and makes it receive double damage during that time. Try to time your attacks. Wait till you see that Daze stuck then attack. That should kill it. This strategy actually might only be needed for the blue turtles, i don't remember....

Important thing. If Fang isn't your party leader you're doing it wrong. She has the best special ability. When the stagger meter is almost over, use Fang's ability. That thing does a ton of damage. Also you should have the equipment/item thing or whatever it is that let's you do damage over 9999. I don't remember what it's called. But that's important to because Fang can go over that limit with her special move.

hahah i just realized you didn't ask for advice to fight it. Ignore everything under the spoiler then. I already typed it up so i'm leaving it!

lol this thread is kind of dead so idk if anyone else would answer haha

it's not super active but it gets somewhat steady posts. Also there's nothing new to talk about cus who knows when the next one is gonna come out.

But yea 6!

If i put my bias aside, i'll say you can start with any of these: 4, 6, 7, 9. 10. Any of them would be a good start.
