i put in so much hours into the first Dissidia. The sequel felt like almost the same game with a few more characters so i barely touched that one.

I still haven't played this, I don't own a psp *sigh* but I remember how exited I was when I first heard about it. I thought the opening was so amazing. Emperor Mateus is such a boss 

it's not a great fighting game because of the mechanics. But it's fun for FF fans. So i don't think you're missing out on too much.

I loved almost everything about XII. Except Penelo. She was just.... there. 

 

Fraan and Balthier tho. Ugh. So awesome. 

 

I haven't played IX yet..... 

i could say the same thing for Vaan. My biggest complaint about the game would be that the story is basically all about Ashe and Basch and Vann and Penelo are kinda just there for the ride.

 

9 is solid and is a nice change of pace from 7 and 8 because it's a throwback to older light hearted adventure stories in rpgs. But i just couldn't get into it, though i appreciate the charm.

i just had my random FF song playing in my head moment again, it's the Zozo theme from FF6.... i love that place, that place is so peaceful and honest. 

 

and i just remembered one special moment from ff6... it was that transitional period between the old world to the post-apocalypse world. the Celes moments during that period was untouchable, no game moments before or after that affected me like that.  :sad:

i felt no connection to Aerith and did not feel sad at all when she died. I felt more sorry for Tifa being by Cloud's side the whole time while he's busy obsessing over Aerith, a girl he just met.

 

anyways, Square just tradmarked "Final Fantasy Agito." This is the game that was originally Final Fantasy Agito XIII and then changed to Final Fantasy Type-0. So now they're re-trademarking it with a different name changing it from Type-0 but not even using the original name dropping the "XIII" part.

 

It could be that they're finally planning on localizing it or it could be nothing. Keeping my excitement in check until some real news comes out for it.

I don't really remember my initial reaction to her death, but her theme makes me feel upset about it all lol. I rarely used her. It's funny, you're supposed to be attached to characters like Aerith and Rinoa...but I rarely used them, and don't really care for them. Tifa & Quistis >

i always find myself more attached to supporting characters, or i like using them more. I rarely used Aerith in 7 so that's probably why i didn't care for her character. Like how i like Eiko more than Garnet/Dagger. IDK why though.

 

I told my friend that for Suikoden 2 i used Tengar a lot and she was in my final party, and he responded "out of everybody why do you use her?"

haha what?! Tengaar is awesome! I really like Kinnison and Sierra. Idk if they are considered popular characters or not. Sierra maybe, she is part of the plot at one point. I was considering making a Suikoden thread, but I feel like you and me are the only ones who know about it  :sad: so I scrapped that idea 

 

Right! That game is pretty easy though so you could really use anybody you want and i liked the idea of making a little girl kick some monsters ass.

 

Yea the Suikoden fanbase is too small for it's own thread and the series is dead now anyways so there wouldn't be anything to talk about. Before you made this FF thread i was thinking of making a general RPG thread, but i decided not to and just post stuff in the General Game thread since it's actually active.

 

I want that tech demo showcased a while back to be XV tbh. It looked awesome.

Exactly..I still curse at Konami til' this day. Yeah well it seemed that quite a bit of people in the general gaming thread often talked about Square Enix, so I figured what the heck. Also if I kept talking about FF in there i'm sure I would of annoyed some of them eventually lol. 

 

Anyway I would of appreciated a general RPG thread. I'm so out of touch with current RPGs, I don't even know what's good.

i'll think about it...maybe sometime later this week haha.

 

i lack the funds to play any of the newer ones sadly. But it's ok because there's still a bunch of older ones on ps2/snes/ds that i haven't played yet. What systems do you have i could recommend some that i either know or heard are good.

 

 

I've been pondering whether I should get the latest Atelier Ayesha, since it looks gorgeous and I haven't played a turn based rpg in eons.

 

But then I realised Tales of Xillia is coming out soon. 

 

Insta-buy for that game  . 

 

Waiting for Ni No Kuni and Tales of Graces F to go on sale lololol. I'm a cheapskate  . 

 

That will all change as soon as I hear any type of news about Type-0 though. Versus can go lick a vagina with a yeast infection for all I care now. 

it does look gorgeous. I love the art style. I've never played any of the Atelier games though, eventhough i have Rorona i haven't even touched it yet. I have no idea if i would enjoy it because it's so different from the usual rpgs but i saw a console rpg with turnbase battle system and a nice art style so i was interested.

 

 i want to play Ni No Kuni so much but $$ :sad:

I haven't played any of the Atelier franchise either. I looked it up and found out that there's another Atelier game coming out, so I might as well wait until then haha. 

 

I've played none of the Tales franchise either so I'm looking forward to when I finally get to play Xillia and Graces. Star Ocean Last Hope has a sort of similar battle system doesn't it? I played that for a bit but got bored since the story was going nowhere and the characters bored me to death. 

lol with that mentality you're never going to play an Atelier game then because they have been releasing new ones very frequently this gen (i don't want to say yearly because i'm not sure but it seems like it is). From what people have said Totori and Meruru are supposed to be pretty good and should be somewhat cheap if you're curious about the series and don't want to spend too much.

 

I hated Star Ocean: LH. idek why but it just bored me and wasn't fun. The battle system is somewhat similar to Tales though yes but Tales is more faster paced and more fun to me. I think Graces F is the best battle system in the Tales series. But it's very fluff in terms of it's content with it's love and friendship theme and focus.

 

Is the tales series good? I have yet to check it out. I need to get back into Ni No Kuni

I have a PS2, PS3 & a 3DS. I'm playing Radiant Historia right now, and was thinking about playing Chrono Trigger but I've already played that on the SNES or playstation whatever it was. But yes recommend some games. What are your favourites?

i'm not the biggest Tales fan but i've played a few of them and they're fun i just don't like the kiddy fluff that i explained in my above reply to Taku. Vesperia is mature though but you'd need a 360 to play that in english.

 

I really liked Radiant Historia but it was too damn easy. Aht's trap skills completely break the game. You can run away from most fights and not be overwhelmed because her trap skills will destroy everything including random monsters and bosses. The time travel elements are really interesting though.

 

Well my favorite rpgs of all time would be FF6, Super Mario RPG, Dragon Quest 8, and Trails in the Sky. The last 2 are on systems you don't have . For recs outside of my favs i mentioned, I really like Persona 4 for ps2. For ps3 there's Eternal Sonata that i liked and i hear Valkyria Chronicles is supposed to be one of the best ps3 rpgs but i don't like strategy rpgs and can't speak for it. And Resonance of Fate is supposed to be good also.

Oh goodness I agree about Star Ocean LH. I'm stuck at a boss and have no motivation to grind and get passed it. Yeah I can't with kiddy games, that's what turns me off KH and even Ni No Kuni a little. It's also the impression I get with the Tales series, although I've never actually played it before. Aren't the Tales games JRPGs, why would Vesperia be a Xbox exclusive?

yes Tales games are rpgs. Vesperia is on the ps3 also but never got localized. But Xillia is going to be ps3 exclusive pretty sure.

Well I did get into the franchise when I was still in 6th grade so... meh. Still getting the 1.5 HD Remix. 

 

Speaking of HD games, I can't wait for the FFX/X-2 HD ports to get released. Hopefully X-2 will retain the Last Mission stuff from the 'International version' though. 

i played the first when i was in middle school and it was fun at the time. But i played 2 (or tried to at least) only a few years ago and i hated it. It's like a string of sidequest disney worlds and i had more fun during the gummyship sequences than the actual game.

 

i'll be getting the FFX/X-2 collection also since i've never beaten X and never played X-2.

i really want to play it. I like rhythm games and FF obviously but at that price, HELL NO! You could try it on your phone first if you have a phone that can play it.

I should post an article i read written when Ni no Kuni came out. It basically was talking about what rpg fans actually want. The guy talks about what he thought he wanted was an old school rpg game but when NNK came out and has that stuff, he realized that what he wants isn't something that rpgs used to be what something new and innovative. It was an interesting read.

 

I think this is true because no matter how big of an rpg player you are there has to be tons of older snes, ps1, ps2, gba, etc old school rpgs that you haven't played yet. So why complain about current games not having towns, worlds to explore, not having turn based battles, etc when you can play some of those instead. It's cus people actually want something new but don't want to admit it to themselves.

 

also i seriously want to start negging people if they mention KH3. Should i do it and do you want to join me?

yea i feel that the people on here who game a lot couldn't give a shit about Versus anymore. I think it's more of the people who play games once in a while and stuff are the ones that got all excited about Versus. The rest of us probably would rather have Agnes Philosophy instead.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if Versus becomes FFXV but i also wouldn't be surprised if it just becomes it's own thing like FF: subtitle instead.

 

Versus looked like it was going for the FF7 and KH fanbase, which does not include me.

wow i just watched that demo for the Lightning game. Is it going to be a straight up action adventure game? Looks kind of like a DMC game, with different fighting system of course. Even the battle system looks more like Crisis Core than the past 13 games.
