LOVELYZ8 LINE DISTRIBUTION CHART: Who sings the most? Who sings the least?

LINE DISTRIBUTION IN LOVELYZ' LOVELY8

  • Calculations are done by time spent singing, not the number of lines.
  • Lovelyz doesn't have many adlibs, so I counted everything that was recognizably sung by a member. All-member choruses (e.g. parts of Ah-Choo) don't count for anyone's total.

I like figuring out the line distribution among my favorite groups! I've previously done 2PM.

Today I went through and did the analysis for Lovelyz8. Let me tell you, it is definitely a labor of love (i.e. it is a lot of work)...but at least it's easy. You can see the raw data for yourself here. Following are the results:

For point of reference, an exact 8-way split would give each person 12.5%.

As expected, Jin/Kei/Sujeong are at the top of the pile. I was surprised that Jin actually has the most lines, since to me it feels like Kei sings more.

In my opinion, Jiae and Yein should have switched values...I find Jiae to be a much more capable singer than Yein, though her work in Lovelyz definitely doesn't show it. Delight was absolutely wonderful. Moreover, Jiae and Jisoo have the poorest quality of lines, in that they often 'sing' random one or two-word phrases between lines, which aren't substantial. I'd love to get Jiae singing a lot more and back in her normal range. No more aegyo voice for her! Which unfortunately seems to be making a return in one of the tracks on Lovelinus. I also think Baby Soul should get more lines.

What are your all's thoughts? I'd love to hear them.

I actually disagree with the bit about Jiae swapping lines with Yein. Although I would love to see Jiae get more lines that actually do her justice because Delight proved she can sing, it's become pretty apparent to me that Yein has a more stable live performance than Jiae and when put together with the four sub-vocals both Yein and Mijoo seem to carry the song.

I'm actually also surprised Jin got the most time, but in a good way. I also need Baby Soul to get lines that do her justice. Her solo song is still one of my favorite songs to date.

Also, please give Jisoo some singing lines. The girl did a high note in Goodnight Like Yesterday but doesn't get anything substantial in later songs...

I would love to see Baby Soul with more lines, her vocals on Ahchoo was pretty good imo.

Ah, am I the only one who loves when Mijoo sings the high pitch part at CJL? Even that she isnt part of the vocal line she did a good job and Jisoo aswell at GLY.

Also, If Jiae keeps singing with that baby voice I prefer that she get less lines than the other girls..

Really hate how woolim is pushing that baby/airy voice on Jiae

it doesn't do her voice any justice at all, delight proved just that.

Im jiae bias (and sujeong) but i agree, if woolim is going to make her sing like that

or give her lines that require that then its better she sticks to the lines she has now

(Dont really like yein's voice that much but seems like she's popular with ppublic so shes getting more now)

(Also Mijoo's voice is pretty nice but they just gave her the wrong ones in Ah-choo, she's better off in the lower range where she doesn't have to strain)

--> give more lines to baby soul in the higher range

--> Waiting for jiae's voice to return... =.=' (seems like in bebe she's still singing like that :/)

mijoos one of my top biases but i dont like her voice much for their songs  i think she would sound a lot better in a lower range. and yeah jiae has a nice voice ! i love her solo on their first album

I agree. Although I absolutely loved her lines in "shooting star"... I feel like mijoo is the least stable singer in lovelyz along with yein because they are both consistently given lines in a key higher than their vocal range comfort zone. She always sounds like she just finished crying whenever she sings imo, this is especially true during the "hi" lives. Her tone is SO pretty and unique but it doesn't translate well to the kind of lines she's given.

Also jisoo is a great singer with a really cool voice so it doesn't make sense that she's not getting any lines. But their line distribution is really not THAT bad and theyre still rookies so I'm sure they'll improve!!! :)

Yeah, I don't care much for Yein's voice either. It often sounds to me like she's doing that thing where she speaks her lines more than actually singing them...like, there's no musicality. (See: a lot of weak singers, like Sohee).

Mijoo sounded way out of her comfortable range throughout Lovelyz8; they also did a lot of autotuney business to her voice in the album which makes it quite warped. I'd love to hear her in range.

thank you for making this!!

i agree that baby soul needs a little bit more lines.

jiae's part in ah-choo is my favorite. i also like mijoo's voice, she needs to get the parts the she can sing comfortably.

You are welcome! Yep, I'd love for them to have a song that's pitched a whole octave lower!

You can't expect your favorite to get more lines if she isn't capable to do it.

Then the song will turn out to be worst. Some members are gifted with good vocals and some members are gifted with different talents/visuals.

IMO mijoo is the weakest. She sounded awkward in GNLY cos she used her limited Alto voice. They should put her for low note instead of high note.

if you learn about vocal, then you'll discover the beauty of kei's voice. also sujeong's charismatic voice~

many vocalists can reach the high notes with their ori range. yes that's we call powerful. but only a few of great vocalists can hit the high notes beyond their alto voice (using head voice) nicely. kei and sujeong did it in GNLY. they are gifted with such great and pleasent head voices. Just a slight diff is kei can reach higher than sujeong.

till now GNLY is still the best track for Lovelyz

since we talk about vocal, a few months ago, i asked my friend (she's taking major in art and music) to rank them. after listening to their songs/lives/acapellas..she gave me the list :

1.kei  2.sujeong  3.Jin  4.Babysoul.  5.the rest of the members

She said kei's voice is a treasure. They (the producers) should take it to the next level. sujeong/jin/babysoul have good tone colors. the rest of the members (4) still singing under par. need more practice. she added, the form of your lips also important when you r singing. this is happened on mijoo~

:: btw thanks for your effort OP  :) :: i believe the line distribution is based on their abilities.

This one's pretty fair considering the type of songs in Lovelyz8, but I hope in Lovelinus, Mijoo and Soul gets more lines. I can distinguish Mijoo's voice the best imo and Soul's vocals are always on point, but even Yein is coming close the the time that they she sings.
