Are you Catholic?

I'm included as a Catholic, but I don't identify as one.

I'm probably the same. I go to church and pray and all typical catholic things, but I don't agree with the extremities that most people seem to think all catholics are about (being against homosexuality, birth control, etc.)

It always seems like Catholic families have a bunch of kids

Maybe they just like kids, and I'm just assuming the wrong things

But, 4+ kids is way too much work. There has to be a reason why you would have them other than you enjoy having them.

yeah haha I really don't know. I know my father was catholic but my mom wasn't; she converted right before she married my dad. I'm one of just two kids.

In theory I am, I've been baptized, went to church a few times, went to a catholic HS, among other things. In practice, I'm more of an agnostic.

With that being said, I'm all for using contraceptives. I even encourage stacking condoms and the pill for the first months of a relationship.

Shit i wish they made a pill for men,so you don't have to be paranoid if the girl is really on the pill or just trying to set you up >_>

It's called a condom. Besides, you shouldn't go around having unprotected sex with girls that you don't know well enough to be sure, and not just talking about pregnancy.

My parents are Catholic and they had four children, but to be honest the two youngest were a surprise. Parents hadn't planned for them. :hurr:

I have non-Catholic friends with larger families than mine though.

Lol I was a surprise actually. I was their anniversary gift. :hurr:

I was raised in a Catholic family (I am Catholic, but I am not a fanatic, I don't even like discussing religious themes) and tbqh I think Catholics are way more accepting than most Cristians I know. Here, when I attend mass, even the priests say a planned family lives better than those who are like rabbits, and they also say that being gay is ok. (okay well they say we're diseased but they say we should learn to love everybody the same because Jesus wasn't a homophobe)

also, I attended once a mass for homosexual peers like me, and we discussed that controversial story on the Bible about Jonathan and David, so I don't think all Catholics are not accepting. In fact, Church helped my family a lot when they were trying to accept me.

I feel like a little of people have this massively negative perception of the Catholic church, when in reality it's not even that bad.

Sure the radicals are horrible, but the church as a whole is progressing.

I think the younger generation of Catholics are a lot more open minded then people realize. I identify myself as Catholic and I'm ok with the pill as long as it's not abused. I'd rather a sexually active high school student use protection than have children who suffer their whole life because their parents were irresponsible and horny.

I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools, but my parents were never very conservative and always advocated contraception and acceptance of homosexuality, etc. personally I've lapsed and I consider myself agnostic now, but I can't full disassociate myself from Catholicism because the majority of my family at home is Catholic so I still attend masses on occasion (for weddings, funerals, christenings etc).

Society as a whole is improving on these matters, and I am thankful that I was born in this era and not, say, 50 years earlier or even before.

Perhaps it's because I was raised in a very open-minded environment, but I feel that the ones who stigmatize homosexuality is the society rather than the Church itself. The majority of us, mexicans, is Catholic but that doesn't mean we're good at it . There's this homophobic, misogynistic feel in society that still dangles in the air (e.g: "Why do you even bother studying, you'll end up marrying a man who'll be the one with a job anyway", said my grandmother to my aunt, who was the first family member in getting a degree in the history of my family). I am not saying every family is like that, because that would be a lie. But that's really what rots people's minds. If you ask me, it's this "macho" image that's so deeply irrigated in this society what needs to be changed.

Then again I am not very religious, but I was taught religion was something that sought conciliation with God and inner peace, a source of love and understanding. Not a bunch of people who idolize a god that's hateful and destructive.
