Hong Kong actor and singer Edison Chen has spoken out on his 2008 sex photo scandal, saying that it was "an accident".

 

In a reality programme that aired on web magazine Vice China called "Being EDC", he also said that he would not change anything that had happened.

 

"Many people have asked what I would change if I could go back in time, but my answer is that I would not change a thing," he said during the interview.

 

"I am very happy now. Even though some unhappy incidents have occurred in the past, I never had any evil intent and did not do those things on purpose. They were an accident," he added, referring to the scandal where private photos of him in bed with Hong Kong stars such as Cecilia Cheung and Gillian Chung were leaked.

 

He also said that prior to the scandal he seemed to have thousands of friends, but after the incident many people broke off their relationship with him and said that they did not know him.

 

"I learned more about myself in the process and found meaning in my life. My father once said that I would be able to earn a lot of money as a celebrity, but I was unhappy because I had no freedom at all."

 

During the interview, Chen also spoke about his business ventures. He revealed that when he initially invested HK$2.5 million (S$455,000), his father told him that he would lose it all. But today, his businesses make over HK$1 billion a year.

 

Laughing, he also thanked his supporters, saying that they were smarter while those who hated him were "jealous or brainless". 

 

The 2008 Hong Kong sex photo scandal saw photos of Chen and several female celebrities leak onto the Internet. He subsequently issued a public apology, especially to the actresses involved, before leaving the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
